Alternatives to canapes to serve with drinks

Hosting a surprise party at a restaurant and spending a LOT of money on food and booze.

As it's a surprise we'll be hanging round until the guest of honour arrives (I reckon it'll be at least 45 mins) and we're planning on serving fizz while people wait and mingle.

But the restaurant doesn't do canapes and I was thinking
We are bringing in a cake from outside as an alternative to pudding and the restaurant happy with this so I was thinking we could bring something to nibble in too.

Do you think some olives and pistachios/cashews is enough?
What else could we serve that's not too much hassle?
(there is a waitrose nearby)
TIA

Waitrose do things like Falafels (sweet potato ones and Spinach ones), little red peppers stuffed with Feta (or is it ricotta?), stuffed vine leaves, cold meats that are yummy, and easy enough to just open and bung on a plate. Oh and they also do mini cheeses (hmm, Babybel...)

You could mix it up with the olives/nuts you suggest and perhaps some cheese/herb sticks (in the cracker aisle). Yum yum...

if you are providing a meal, olives and crisps are fine. anything more and you run the risk of people not eating hte food you've paid for!
