BAN THE BOOTY BAG

Since having my daughter and attending children's parties I have been shocked by the expectations of others to receive a booty bag at the end of the party. I do not give a booty bag as the children have been invited to join my daughter celebrate her birthday, and see no reason for the booty bag is. The children leave with a piece of birthday cake and a balloon, having had a good time at a party. Along with my friends we are trying to encourage other Mums to follow us in a campaign to BAN THE BOOTY BAG, they are costly and have become another competitive area for materialistic parents to fight over and bitch about. The birthday party should be an enjoyable time for children and parents alone and arguments and worries over what to put in the booty bags are ridiculous. Please would you give your support to our campaign. Many thanks.

I love them. It is a way to say "it's been a great party, glad you've enjoyed it, now f*ck off and let me immerse myself in alcohol!"

AnnDaloozier · 17/04/2010 17:39

Please submit your name and vow to not give booty bags at your kids birthday parties. Instead promise to give the kids a great time and send them home with fantastic memories a piece of cake and a balloon. CHEERS TO ALL YOU REBELLIOUS MUMS who have already agreed to support us.

Oh no my kids love them, alright they can be OTT but kids don't care, it's the bit of cake, balloon, cheap bangles and a packet of sweets and they are happy

SoupDragon · 17/04/2010 17:42

Meanies! I love party bags. Love doing them.

And was at a surprise 40th party for a friend and her DH had done party bags for each couple there. His and hers magazines, mini bottle of champagne, Lindt chocolates and Durex play stuff! Was fab.

If you are like Ann please don't think we are asking you not to, we are just asking that you do not expect the same from every party and your children do not always expect them. Kicking off when they don't get them. Enjoy making them up and distributing them if that's your thing.

they're called party bags round our way, and I love them. I enjoy making them up for the kids who have been to the party and my son enjoys receiving them if he's been to a party. he also doesn't mind if he doesn't get one at all. But i certainly wouldn't want them banned.

SoupDragon · 17/04/2010 17:46

"please don't think we are asking you not to"

Er... yes you are!

[bootylicious]

JunoWatt · 17/04/2010 17:46

We are not meanies we are parents who have a limited income and some of the responses I have had from this post are what I would have expected, it shocks me that children are being brought up so materialistically and I realise having seen some responses that they have no chance with parents who can provide the responses they do on this website.

Shouldn't this be in Style&Beauty?

(assumes this is the thing that we call a 'bum bag' and Americans call a 'fanny pack')

LynetteScavo · 17/04/2010 17:48

No, I won't join your campaign.

I'm going to rebel against this and give extra big party bags out at DD's party. (never heard of a booty gag ).

I've never heard any bitching and fighting over party bags, ever. IF you are arguing and worrying about party bags, then good for you; you must have an easy life.

JunoWatt · 17/04/2010 17:49

look just settle down and reboot your pc

LynetteScavo · 17/04/2010 17:51

Oh, so you don't want our children to be rude?

That's quite another thing.

I have heard children saying "Is there a party bag?" but never experienced a child kick off when there wasn't.

JunoWatt · 17/04/2010 17:51

when i was little me and my mate michael used to go, get the bag and leave

we were honest at least

NKffffffffc2f1ee2aX1280c7f02d9 · 17/04/2010 17:52

Oh well enough said, just thought I'd moot the idea, enjoy your discussions.

"I realise having seen some responses that they have no chance with parents who can provide the responses they do on this website."

So, we don't agree with you so you insult us?

Merle · 17/04/2010 17:56

I love them. I don't know what they are like in other parts of the country but where I live they are not OTT, I think. They are usually a piece of cake, some sweets, a toy and maybe a balloon or some bubbles. This is the same format as the party bags we had when I went to my friends' parties in the '70s. So rather than becoming particularly materialistic, I find it heartening that this has remained a constant.

Are there any other economies you'd like us to make, so that parents on less incomes are not inconvenienced?

NKffffffffc2f1ee2aX1280c7f02d9 · 17/04/2010 17:57

Have no wish to insult anyone, apologies if I have, of course you can disagree with me, as someone else said it really isn't a big worry, just a thought.
