Men are so difficult to buy for! Looking for some inspiration so if anyone would like to share what they have purchased for parents retirement, I's be so grateful

TBH I've never heard of anyone buying a present for their parent's retirement.

Surely they have a whipround at work and buy him something?

You wouldn't normally buy a family member a present when they leave a job ime

I'd say nothing, tbh.

hmm, that surprises me.

Well, does he have any dreams or hobbies he will now have time to pursue?
If you can afford it, a trip to a dream destination. Or a getaway somewhere nice for a few nights?
Or a course/workshop/membership in an interest of his, say he always said he wanted to paint/golf/fly/build a greenhouse/make your own wine/be a flamingo dancer/chef for a few examples.
Or a big coffee table book on something he likes, favorite place?

A watch?

We bought my Dad a golf trolly and organised a party but it was also his 65 birthday, so more a present for his 'big' birthday I suppose. Daughters and I organised a whole family weekend away for DH's official reaching of retirement age, also his 65 birthday. He was self employed so no 'works' do for him. Unfortunately, he still had a couple of jobs pending, which led to some more and it was another two years before we could wind up the business!

Depends on the budget really:

National Trust membership
Vouchers for theatre, cinema, hotel break.
Book of walks in local/his favourite area.
Book about potential new interest (cooking/gardening/travelling/family tree-tracing))
Pair of slippers!

I have bought for parents and PILs as retirement pressies:

Bird box and bird cam thingie for inside
Bird bath
Tickets for a special train ride (west coast of Scotland - steam train)
Membership of wine society and wine tasting evening.

I realise that they're a bit specialist, but it might give you some ideas.

Thanks everyone for replying. In the end, I opted for some garden centre vouchers. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who would buy a pressie for retirement
