Girls Christening Gift Ideas

My DH has been asked to be a Godfather to our friend's daughter. Do you have any suggestions of what we could give her?

They also have another DD (almost 3 years old), who has already had a christening ceremony which we didn't attend ... should we also buy a gift for her as well? I think we'd like to but don't want it to be weird.

Ideas welcomed. Thanks

Had DS baptisted last month.
Gifts included; silver money box (though 3 given), a snowshaker snow scene thingy, silver egg cup and spoon, personalised bible, a baptism certificate holder and my favorite, a silver photo frame engraved with the name and date of DS baptism, followed up by a lovely photo of the ceremony the following week.

In the past we've bought the Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones, trees via the Woodland Trust and a Spaceform Godchild glass thingy: www.amazon.co.uk/Spaceform-Godchild-Paperweight/dp/B0017MPU9G

For our own daughters' baptisms we asked people to consider buying something from Oxfam Unlimited/similar as our daughters don't want for anything and felt that a donation to a charity that we supported would be an appropriate way to mark their baptisms. Some people went for this, others had specific ideas about gifts they wanted to give and went for that instead.

I wouldn't buy a retrospective gift for a Godchild's older sibling personally.

For girls, jewellery for when they're older often appreciated (a crucifix) may be.

Books of bible stories/children's prayers lovely, especially as you can write your own personal message inside for them to keep.

I think it'd be lovely to buy big sister a token gift - maybe a hardback book for the godchild and a less expensive one for big sister.

Thank you for your suggestions. I love the idea of the children's prayer book, we will probably get something like that with some jewelery.

A bottle of port of champagne to put away.

A piece of jewellery (my daughter was delighted last week when I gave her a gold bracelet she had been given 10 years ago!)

Premium bonds.

Classic books.
