My ds will be 5 on 20th April and I have absolutely no idea what to do for his birthday. We did the soft play thing last year and don't really want to do that again.
I have been looking through other threads and am now considering having it at home!!! It will be all boys so I would like to go outside - we have a largeish garden but I'm worried about April showers!
Can anyone offer up any ideas, please?

we had ds's at home , went to field across the road and played football with one of those massive blow up footballs , it was hilarious.
played a few games at home, musical bumps, popping balloons, pin the tail, pass the parcel etc
hid some sweets , the usual party stuff
did a pinata which they loved until it finally broke and I realised I had forgotten to put any sweets inside

Thanks ggirl. We had a pinata for my dd birthday and in the end my dh had to beat the living daylights out of it to break it - I felt quite sorry for the pinata!!!
How many little cherubs did you have at yours?

think we had 10
you could makeit fancy dress
like a pirate theme or space theme and base the games around that

we did olympic theme with medals for the winner
did running races and funny races, jelly eating race

remember that games last a quarter of the time you think they'll last

Don't forget a treasure hunt too. They love it at that age.

(Stole this idea from another thread: cut old Christmas cards in two - hand out on half to the boys - get them to search for the missing half. Can be changed according to theme as well.)

Egg and spoon race good as well (golf balls and serving spoons)

I think in April you do need to have a plan B in case of rain (perhaps some craft activities?) Look at Yellow Moon or Baker Ross for ideas.

Depending on time of day - and whether it's dark or not - you can have fun turning off all the lights, lying on the floor, and shining torches at the ceiling or walls around the room (where you have strategically placed luminous stars and moons and rockets etc)

Don't worry if it rains, just tell the Mums to bring rain coats. If you set up a treasure hunt outside they wont let a bit of rain get between them and the treasure. If you want to do a really professional treasure hunt I can recommend www.lelloandmonkey

Have fun!

You are all great. Thanks for all the tips. Wendyhendy1 I was thinking today of just going for it come rain or shine and warning mums to make sure the little angels (!) were prepared for outdoor life!
