Limo hire-help!!

My daughter is DESPERATE to hire a limo for her 11th birthday-she wants about 6 friends, I've googled and googled, (although obviously not very competently )and I can't find any hint at all of how much it might cost, or how it works, unless I actually give my details for a quote-which I'm reluctant to do for fear of being for ever after emailed with Limo offers.

I was wondering if anyone with experience of hiring a limo could give me a rough idea of costs, what you get for your money etc-don't want to commit myself to even discussing it with her yet till I have an idea of cost!!

Thank you Thank you wise mumsnetters in advance

Does she really need a limo? I'd be reluctant to escalate birthday party hell so young!

However, perhaps try buying a wedding magazine and looking in the ads section for limos. Once you see how much they bloody cost (I accidentally went to car stall at a wedding fair once, and was confirmed in my determination never to hire something flashy!), you can tell her how much pocket money she'll have to contribute!

After a Google, in my area for 8 people, Sunday to Friday day time, you'd be looking at a hundred quid or so - they do an hours cruise with drinks, sweets and balloons

I have had the same thing from my own daughter and went through the enqiry thing just to get it out of her system.I am sure its all these programmes they watch and they think its normal.
It is very expensive and to be honest can not remember but it depends on what time of day, day of the week and how far you are going and for how long. I am sure the quote was some where in the region of £300.00 and that was for an early afternoon and short journey and so on.

Very sound point, debbiedoughnut, about getting it out of a child's system!

Thanks very much for all your comments.

She's always had very low key parties before, mainly at home-she doesn't even want the stereotypical pink limo because she's such a tomboy ( 3 brothers) and most of her pals are boys!!

I'd originally thought up to £100 would be ok but thinking about it, it is a awful lot to pay to be driven around in what's basically a long car , plus there'd be no budget left to do anything after the car trip.

My neice had a limo for her tenth birthday party...my poor BIL drew the short straw and went as accompanying adult along with seven very hyper/screaming/excitable girls.

Anyway - apparently they loved being driven along the main street of the village and waving at all the kids they passed. That lasted five minutes. Then the driver drove around town for the hour before heading back. BIL says that after the first ten minutes novelty value wore off he was left with seven bored girls...there was nothing they wanted to see out the window, they'd eaten the chocolates and drunk the fizzy juice.

The limo had a music system and they spent the rest of the hour arguing over what to listen to!!

Also BIL expressed concern at the seating arrangement within the limo...something to do with seatbelts and long bench type seats down the side. The kids were all moving around insde the limo to get drinks/food and put music on sound system.

laydeestardust I know the price my sister paid was less because it was a Sunday morning pick-up (after a sleepover hence the hyper children!!). And my advice if your daughter has a limo party....send someone else with them and you stay home with a bottle of wine!! Enjoy
