Dd1's birthday is in 2 weeks time, what can i buy her for around 20.00?

She's not your average 6 year old, not very girly, likes dinosaurs, science, space, cars and making things but also likes puppy in my pocket etc..

lego?

My dd1 is six next month and i've got her:
barbie campervan
lego (yet more lego!)
sewing kit to make a very simple doll.

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:23

I got her the lego campervan for Christmas and she really enjoyed making it. (I quite like toy campervans...I'd really like to get a real one!)

My dd's birthday is next month and I am having the same issues. what to buy her so close after xmas. Would your dd like a pass for a science museum or such like, that might be good.

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:29

There are loads of science kits you can get eg. chemistry kit; magnets; space kits the ones where you can make a solar system.

Earlybird · 17/01/2010 15:33

What about board games, craft kits or jigsaw puzzles?

At 6, she will have more concentration/reasoning and manual dexterity, and will likely be ready for something a bit more challenging.

How about some Triops [http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3840834/Trail/searchtext%3ETRIOPS.htm here]. They are absolutely fasinating to watch and it is something she can do herself. Hawkins Bazaar have them also. As do Toys R us.

bargainhuntingbetty · 17/01/2010 15:34

damn Link wasnt right sorry

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:36

I was just about to recommend Hawkin's Bazaar!

It's so much fun having a girl who is into making things and not just playing with dolls etc.

I bought a Lego creator dinosaur a couple of months ago - you can make three different types of dinosaur out of it - it's not easy though, eight is the minimum age on the box I think.

amidaiwish · 17/01/2010 15:38

she sounds like my DD1, 6 end of Feb.

she really enjoyed making a solar system model with dh, they got it at the natural history museum but i am sure you can find it online. was about £12. Or if accessible, why not a special trip to a museum and then a gift from the shop she can choose? I still remember my mum taking me to brent cross shopping centre when i was 7, just me and her, and her buying me a spirograph .

is she into club penguin yet? my dd is obsessed so that might be worth looking into. (assuming she has access to a computer).

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:39

What is club penguin?

amidaiwish · 17/01/2010 15:39

hama beads a winner too. loads of designs to choose from.

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:40

Also archeology kits where you can dig out a dinosaur skeleton.

amidaiwish · 17/01/2010 15:41

www.clubpenguin.com

an online community - you create a penguin, play tons of games online, earn coins to access more and more online. totally addictive from what i can see. buy packs of cards with codes on to unlock more.

membership is £3.99 a month but you don't need to be a member. she will get to the stage though where she will want to be as you can then access more things, decorate your igloo etc...

it is mad. but amazing, and very good for their reading!

Vintagepommery · 17/01/2010 15:44

lego, skalextric (sp)?

belgo · 17/01/2010 15:45

thank you! DD1 can't read yet, she'll only start to learn in september when she goes to the junior school.

Leslaki · 17/01/2010 15:45

what about benderoos? - my dd and ds are both mad about them!

Marne · 17/01/2010 16:53

She has asked for hama beads, she had some before but dd2 put one up her nose and ended up having surgery , not sure if i could risk it happening again.

I like the idea on clubpenguin as she loves going on the pc.

Will also look at benderoos.

We have a huge amount of lego, she has also asked for Knex but the sets are a bit to pricey.

Just going to look at club penguin now.
