My dd will be 7 next, and I'm hoping this year she will be old enought to choose a smaller group of friends, so we can do a cinema then Pizza type of party, rather than a bouncy castle in the community centre or a soft play centre party.

We've only got dd so I've not got much experience of these things - is 7 old enought to be more selective on numbers?

I was thinking maybe 6 - 8 children.

definately old enough to be selective - my dd had a sleep over and was only allowed one friend. Other friends seem to be going for smaller parties.

Yep. At 7 my DD had 3 friends for a horse riding party. They all had a lovely time.

definitely old enough to be selective. In our family we start being selective once the reception year is over (that school year with tenuous playground buddying up and testing water with friendship groups!)
You wouldn't even have to do anything too expensive as long as you provide cake and some food at the end of it. We have taken small groups to the park for a treasure hunt, to space exhibitions and then the cafe afterwards, had them over for a themed afternoon of play then food.

Thanks for comfirming I'm been reasonable.

I was thinking a trip to the cinema then a meal at Frankie and Benny's (it's on the same site.

The cinema is £5.10 per child and Frankie and Benny's do a childrens menu for £3.95, including a drink and dessert, so for 8 childrens it will be much cheaper than previous parties. The Childrens menu portions can be a bit small but I thought we could order some fries and garlic bread to share.

Lots of cinemas do a Saturday morning kids' club much cheaper than normal tickets - some are £3 each round here, and you get (small) portion of popcorn included plus colouring games etc. If you don't mind not seeing a new release, Sat morning cinema then pizza lunch can be very good value.
