Is it going to be all girls/sleepover type thing? because i would probably would do party bags with nice pens/mini soaps/lip balm/hair accessories (as long as suitably grown up looking) in them
If it is going to be mixed, then perhaps make up a mini compilation cd of some favourite pop songs. I think that could go down quite well with boys and girls.

starlight i think some people like to give out party bags. My friend who has two DD aged 5 and 10 likes to do a small party at home and spend a bit more on the party bags. It can be quite a good 'wind down' at the end of the party too, stops the kids running round after the party tea. 10 is a difficult age though as some are very precocious(sp?) and some really are very much still children.
georgecloonyfan i think you will have to speak to your DD and see what she wants to make the right decision

No age is too old.

But I've found people stop doing it come high school and no one bats an eyelid.

Completely your choice. Does your dd want to give them? If so, she'll probably have good ideas about what to put in them.

What about little gifts from the £1 shop and chemists all ariund a £1 (nail art, socks, notebooks, smelly pens) wrapped up with some sweets, in birthday paper for them as a going home gift, sort of a 'lucky dip'.

My ds went to a party where he got a playmobil man some sweets and a car wrapped up in cellophane with a bow- that was nice could be even prettiier for girls.

Thanks to all your suggestions so far we were going to have a sleepover girls only type party but I did that last year and they all fell out with each other and were quite nasty to each other which was a shame. This year I thought maybe laser tag then food which would be a mixture of boys and girls then maybe one girl friend for sleepover, had 7 of them last time it was too many!!!. So I will ask my DD what she thinks of party bags I know the girls like them but boys of 10 not so sure my son is nearly 8 but he can't wait to get the party bag.

Not too old - my ds is 11 and still likes them. Tescos sell lots of cheap party stuff.

We burn cds of the music we've played at the party, 10 tracks or so chosen by birthday dc. Give each child a cd. They like it.

I thought DS1 (10 next month) would be too old but he insists he wants them.

Otherwise, you could buy 12 (or however many) of sthg yr DD loves at the pound shop and wrap is up as a leaving gift.

Or get each of them a nice mini toiletries type set (some of DD's 8yo pals are already keen on lipgloss etc so by 10 they'll be gagging for it I imagine)

Liking that CD idea.
