Transporting a cake

Hi,

Does anyone have any good tips for transporting a large birthday cake (too big to go in a normal cake tin)? Last time I just put it on the cake board in my lap (in the passenger seat) and then clung onto it for dear life with dh driving (and nearly knocking it over with the gear stick!) Is there a better way?

Both dds have birthdays coming up with parties elsewhere. Assembling at venue is not an option because we don't have access in advance.

Find a box same size as board, wedge in position in the boot of the car, put DH in passenger seat and drive carefully yourself?

Wedge into a box, strap it in with a seat belt, drive carefully.

What ChippyMinton said. Done it myself many times.

If it can possibly go in a footwell, this is better than boot because bouncing and turning are felt less in the footwell than the boot.

Leave off any delicate bits & candles until you get there, and take a tube of spare icing for last minute fixes.
