Pass the parcel - which version to do with 3 year olds?

Ds will be 3 soon and am thinking of his party games. Having been to a few parties recently I noticed the updated version of the game where with each unwrap a small gift is "won". Another party and it was like when I was young - nothing till the end - the older kids faces as they fervently searched for the token gift was quite amusing and just a little bit sad-inducing. So the question is for a bunch of 3 year olds do I wrap a small gift in between and a bigger one at the end (my heart says YES) or let them learn that life is hard as my DH says.....
Any opinions?

I always put a little chocolate in each layer

I put a sticker or a sweetie between each layer, then a bigger packet of stickers as the main prize. I make sure each child wins something.

No need to teach them life is hard, plenty of time for that.

When DD was 3 I don't think we had anything between the layers

Always something between the layers ime. Doesn't have to be much - a sweetie or a sticker.

I put a forfeit between the layers, succesful completion of which earns a sweet. Something simple for little ones like 'pull a silly face' or 'growl like a tiger'.

Yes stuff between the layers, stickers, sweets etc and instead of having a big prize at the end, do a selection of toys (prob best to have all the same ) in the middle so they all get a little something (make sure there is enough!!)

cilitbang · 29/03/2009 16:34

I mean a selection of tiny toys - like you'd put in a party bag btw!!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - I think I'll be going with a little something in-between then. Want it to go as smoothly as possible - small house and quite a few guests - plan to do an easter egg hunt too as it will be easter sunday so hope that will keep them happy. Now believe it or not I must have the only ds who does not like chocolate......seriously! Might put little toys in for that too then
