Has anyone got any recommendations for games that work really well for this age group? Have got musical bumps, pass the parcel etc but am looking for some fresh inspiration!

TIA

We just had dd's 7th birthday party yesterday - so a bit older but not much.
Big successes were:

bubble bum (!) - balloons tied to a row of cushions / chairs / bench etc - split the kids into 2 teams, one at a time goes up from each team and has to burst the balloon just by sitting on it, no hands or anything else allowed, the first team where every member has burst a balloon wins

scavenger hunt - for 10 minutes welcome peace and quiet split into 2 teams again, give them a list of items and send them out into the garden to find them (you can 'seed' the garden if necessary with bits of coloured paper etc), they get x minutes then the team with the most of the items on the list wins.

blind pirate - children take turns to sit on a chair blindfolded with some 'treasure' underneath (chocolate coins), one child at a time tries to sneak up and grab the treasure, if the pirate points right at them and says 'stop thief' then they are caught, otherwise they get the coin

sack race - I reckon the most popular of the lot for us - we had about 6 runs of this before we could get them to stop - but only ok if weather good unless you have a bigger house than us!

Have fun

Those are brilliant thank you! Great idea about the sack race - where did you get your sacks from? Also how many children did you have? Were there any games that didn't work as well as you thought?

We had 14 of the 6/7 yr olds plus 3 teenagers. I think that is pretty much all the games we did with the main group of them (party was from after school to 5.30, so allowing time for tea there wasn't a huge amount of time for games).

We didn't do a couple of the games we had planned - squeak piggy squeak (ran out of time) and also the memory game (20 items on a tray, take tray away after 2 mins, children in 2 teams have to write down as many items as they can remember as poss) because they were definitely in loud and bouncy mode, not quiet sit-down game mode

We also played Minefields (items scattered over floor, one person blindfolded, another person directs them through the 'minefield') right at the end when most of the kids had gone home and there were just a couple of young ones and then the teenagers & adults, don't think the others could have been quiet enough for it to work earlier.

Sacks - we have lots of sacks as we live on a farm - not sure where you would get them from otherwise. . . Maybe a 3 legged race instead?

Thanks very much for those ideas - teenagers definitely a plus for a party like that!

Anyone else got any great ideas?

partyplanner - I'm doing a 6th party next month. I'm planning games like What's the Time Mister Wolf, and Duck, Duck, Goose, with the intention that they will just run and run until they get bored, then I'll jump in with a round of pass the parcel or musical bumps/statues!

Someone gave me the idea of giving them tails to stick down the back of their trousers and just letting them run around pulling each others tails out! I'm going to do that as they're all arriving - fortunately we have a big garden, so just hoping it stays dry!

Also the pass the parcel will have forfeits between each layer, eg stand on one leg, hold your nose, jump up and down etc until the next time the music stops.

Can I steal any of your ideas in return !
