I've booked DS's party for 4-6pm one day in the Easter holidays. I was going to send out invitations at the end of this week, but today he came home with an invitation from a boy in his class who is having a party from 12.30pm- 3.30pm on the same day!

The only alternative day I could rearange the party to is nowhere near DS's birthday.

WWYD?

is there likely to be a lot of overlap of children? if say 2-3 then go ahead, but if it is majority, then perhaps go for next day instead?

MrsStig · 23/03/2009 17:40

DS2 thinks the other child has invited "most people in the class". We were going to invite all the boys.

Well - unless it takes 30 mins to get from one party to the next - what's the problem?

Be sure to invite the other birthday boy though. Honestly - they'll see it as a brilliant day.

Join forces? See if the other mum wants to share the cost/organisation?

I would say it's definitely worth approaching the other mum and seeing if you could host a joint party. Other than that, I'd just stick with the arrangement you have. My ds has been whisked across town before from one party to the next. They think it's great fun and you get a really tired child who sleeps well that night

MrsStig · 23/03/2009 18:14

I've never even seen the other mum as it's always the G'ma who collects - other wise joining forces would be a brilliant idea!

The other child is having a pirate party (judging by the very impressive treasure map invitation) and DS is having a football party, so it should be a fun afternoon.

DH has said I should lay on a mini bus so the other mums can have a child free afternoon.

Well that would certainly earn you brownie points with the other mums and you'd be more likely to get the children to your party too!

I had a similar problem but our party was for the same time as the other child. Fortunately, I was able to move ours to the following week.

Like others have said, your 30 minute gap should be enough for children to make both parties. DD1 went to 2 back to back parties (obviously at the same venue). She was less keen on eating at the 2nd party, but loved it anyway.

Don't worry about the party being near his birthday - my DS1 always has a party in June despite the fact his birthday is in August because of the holidays.
