dd is 1 in 6 weeks' time. Hadn't really thought about a party as such as she seems a bit young and won't know how old she is! My mum clearly thinks I'm awful and should be having a proper jelly and ice-cream type party. Not many friends with children at all, most would be older, and just know a few other mums from mum and baby group, but we don't tend to socialise at each other's homes. Our house is a project we are VERY slowly renovating so a bit like a very grotty builder's site...
prob not getting done because dh is a builder

Anyway, thought would try and compromise by doing a sort of party tea for close family and maybe a few other mums - sandwiches, scones, a Victoria sponge with big candle for dd. Did you have big party or do not much?

not much! We had a cake and grandparents. that was IT

Cake and grandparents here too. It's nice to mark the occasion, but anything else is unnecessary for a child who's not got a clue what's going on!

We did have a party but it was was for family or close friends of ours rather then mums from baby groups. I think your party tea idea is perfect (thats all we did really - i just called it a party ).

grandparents in morning, met two cousins in aft and went to local park. dd was totally not impressed with all the presents and banners etc, ignored most of the toys, just liked being on swing in park!

ds1 small tea party with cousins and MIL

ds2 nothing much at all - on holiday - bought a cake.

I invited all my friends over for a tea party with each of mine bar DS2, and his birthday matched with DS1 having his nursery trip (with all his and mine and DS2's friends), so we celebrated there

We had what was meant to be a small party ... and ended up being rather large!

I agree that there is no need to do anything - a friend of mine didn't have a party for any of her DSs until they were 3.

Your idea sounds lovely - but watch your numbers ...
