and if so how much was it?

i've just been quoted one for our wedding in July and seems awfully expensive

I think the manager of the venue did it at ours - for no extra cost IIRC

Ok if you're having a wedding in a hotel the event manager or function manager will do this for you instead.

All they do is introduce you into the reception room, announce speeches and tell people what is going on in the evening.

Let the Hotel manager announce you into the room and the first speaker. Then your best man can tell people what is happening in the evening.

Sorry Toastmasters are a waste of time. I use to be an event manager and they are normally men who like to dress in uniform and look important and drink far too much. I've also never met one that could get the bride and grooms name right for the whole day, with their names written down in front of him.

If you've not having it in a hotel, use the best man that's what he is there for.

So did mine.

I have to say I think it's one of the areas most easy to cull in terms of budget (an uncle/aunt or cousin with a loud voice or venue manager should be fine!)

SausageRoleModel · 12/03/2009 21:56

How much did you get quoted?

specialmagiclady · 12/03/2009 22:00

Sorry - the "so did mine" referred to venue manager doing it. Can't help you!

My sister had one for hers he was really good and made a little speech in the lull between photos and meal.
Was really good think cost about £200 a couple years ago!

tbh that sounds about right.

As our wedding was quite formal it would have been odd if our best man had done the job but if yours is fairly relaxed then get someone to double up on roles and save a bit of money.

nicolamumof3 · 12/03/2009 23:03

i can't justify £400 on it as much as i would love to know its going to run smoothly will chat to dp but i think he will go mental when i tell him price!!!!

where is it going to be?

skramble · 13/03/2009 12:17

The venue manager did the calling through to the meal etc, but during the meal it was the minister who spoke and introduced the first speach. At night it was the DJ who introduced us for the first dance and then invited the parents then the rest to join us.

I would look to a member of you family first who is good at this sort of thing, and save some money. Would be more personal too.

Hi Nicola, this may be too late but I have been to a few weddings where this toastmaster has been used. He was very good. A colleague used him and said he did much more than just announcing speeches etc. I'm pretty sure she didn't pay as much as £400. HTH.

nicolamumof3 · 27/03/2009 07:23

hi we've got one now, thanks tho xx
