AM I CRAZY - My 7 yr old son is having a sleepover party for 10

My little man will be 7 next month - and we wanted to do something different - so we came up with a sleepover party - only thing is there are 10 boys altogether that are friends and it would be hard to invite some and not the others - I am hoping (rather naughtily) that with it being the school holidays that maybe one or two may not be able to make it. We do have a large conservatory that runs across the back of our home. The idea is that it is theirs for the evening (not to be running around the rest of the house) - they are going to have a couple of dvd's - I am going to cook loads of pizzas and will sort some kind of pudding out - have popcorn and sweet and drinks - can anyone give me any ideas to make things run smoothly. I wondered if to say 6pm was a good start time and would they all arrive in their pj's with a change of clothes for the next morning - they are to bring sleeping bags/blow up beds and I was going to put them all on the floor in there along with loads of cushions and then they can all just crash out on them to watch the films - what do you think????

Um - yes, you are crazy

At least half of them will probably want to go home at a really convenient time (for you and their parents) like 1am...

IIWY I would first of all run it past all the parents to check whether the child concerned has slept away from home before.

Sounds like total chaos and loads of fun. I have no experience in this, but I'd make sure there isn't too much that can make a mess. Popcorn may be fun to throw around! They'll love sweets, but it may give you 10 hypo boys.

I hope it all goes well.

You are brave, but I bet you will be the 'cool mum' in your neighbourhood.

yes you are mental. but yor ds will think you are fab.

i ha 3 over when ds was 7. they were outplaying football at 6am...

do you think its a good idea for them to arrive in their pj's - and what about if I send at note to mums with the invite - asking for this to be done (pj's) and also asking for phone numbers - ask parents to bring a change of clothes for morning.

What would be a reasonable time to say right lights out now?

I have said NO COMPUTER GAMES - ie Wii or PS2 or NIntendo ds's - we have got the Wii and PS2 but I am cocnerned that if we let them do that - that someone will get left out and this may cause problems - did wonder about maybe doing a quiz or a getting Uno extreme or something out - anyh suggestions/tips appreciated

You seem to have loads of great ideas.

I think arriving in PJs will avoid a lot of extra fuss getting them all ready for bed.

As for lights out...I dont really know...11? / when you are fed up with the noise? / don't bother because they wont listen anyway?

I would also check that they are all dry at night. Some may still be in pyjama pants or wet the bed....

Personally I wouldn't do it (and I have a 7 yr old ds). Can you invite his best friend for the night of his birthday, then have an evening party for the rest on another day? They could come over at 4ish, have pizza, watch a film with popcorn and get picked up at about 9.30.

GawdAllMighty · 01/02/2009 20:56

This is just what i did for my sons 7th in December. We went to a soft play place first with all the mums and then they dropped them back at mine, pizza and dvds popcorn etc and a sleep over-pick up at 8.30 the next morning.

They were all asleep by 10ish, cheapest birthday party ever!

ChippyMinton · 01/02/2009 20:58

I wouldn't do it personally . If you must have it in the evening, why not have the DVD/pizza/pyjama bit, then send them home at 8pm?

bigTillyMint · 01/02/2009 21:02

Gawd, HOW did you get them to sleep by 10?

RESPECT

DD went to her bf's 9th birthday sleepover party and they didn't go to sleep till 4am. They woke up at 6.30am

DH won't allow sleepover parties, but we have DC's close friends for sleepovers very regularly.

Well I put them to bed at 8.30 let them prat around until 9.30 then I went and sat in the room-they fell asleep pretty darn quick then!
