7y birthday party at the farm - which option would your DD prefer?

Currently started preliminary planning for DD's 7th birthday party. Party will most liely be last weekend in March, a week before her birthday to coincide with the end of our term, before people go away for Easter.

Lookign at having it at the local farm. It isn't open to the public so will be exclusive use for party guests.

The party is 2 hours long and all include a guided tour of the farm to meet the animals and see the crops growing.

There may also be time for a brief mask making, animal hunt or party games activity.

Then there is chose of theme/activity. The options suggested are:

  • mini beast trail - go and collect mini beasts from the fields and countryside from different habitats and then go see them under the video microscopes

  • victorian life ont he farm - get dressed up and see what life was like on a Victorian farm

  • where food comes from - animals and crops

  • senses trail - into the countryside to explore using all 5 senses

Or you can choose your own theme.

This is followed by food and cake.

The guests will be aged 6/7y girls (approx 15 of them). Do you have girls this age?

Which of the options would your DD prefer?

senses trail.

Victorian life sounds the most fun.

Forgot to add, at present DD is favouring either bug hunting (which she loves to do with her friend int he garden anyway) or Victorian life.

Bug hunting (did this for two years with DS1 and it was a hit each time). Mind you, will there be many bugs around in March?

It sounds like a fantastic party whatever you do - lucky DD

SlartyBartFast · 28/01/2009 21:17

any dressing up would be a bit hit i am sure.
bugs not such a big deal ime

Victorian life

Only problem with the dressing up is that DD isn't very keen on dressing up herself. But many of her friends are.

DD and certainly some of her friends would love the minibeast/bugs but I am concerned some others might not be or might be a bit scared of the actual insects/spiders maybe.

Not sure about the senses one - not sure if it might be too educational for a party maybe? Need more info ont hat I think.

Going to talk to the farm for full in this week so may have a better idea then.

The farm also does sleepovers for 10 children/2 adults in converted barns which sound fab. But way too young for that, but will remember for the future!

sphil - not sure if enough bugs around then either; it is pretty high up and open to elements so maybe not. Need to ask again about this.

It is start of lambing season around then too isn't it? I remember going up at Easter a couple of years ago and lambs being born that day. That would be fab!

ooh Hula I think DD would like all of those.

Prob mini beasts or dress up favourite.
Sounds good

LOL at "preliminary planning" - I am in that stage with DS2 but DH has thrown a curveball in the shape of a possible date at Wembley

Hulababy · 29/01/2009 22:07

lol, prelimnary means = find venue and book.

At least then date is set and I can ignore it again for anothe rmonth

Concerned weather might be too cold for bug hunting at end of March, so might be Victorian farm instead.

my 6 yr old would love the bug thing, or the dressing up thing. Though her friend who is 7 doesn't like bugs. So not sure all girls would like the bug thing. I would choose the dressing up,, but hard if your dd doesn't like dressing up.
