Title says it all..I am married to their only child and they really are fantastic in every way and nothing is too much bother for them..they help us out in so many ways and our children have a fantastic relationship with them as do my hubby and I. They deserve a great celebratory party but I jsut dont know what to do for them. They dont like fuss and live a very simple life...never go on holiday or have many interest (but family) but know they would like "something to mark the day". We are going out for a meal at a local restaurant for Sunday lunch (their suggestion)and I had thought of a small soire afterwards here for all that has been invited. I need suggestions on what to do to make them feel special. Also need ideas for a pressie too....they dont like fuss and never ever go on holiday because of anxiety issues. Please please help me here ..ever so grateful...wink

For my PIL, I made them a cake in the colour scheme of their wedding, and did silk flowers on top of the same flowers that MIL had in her bouquet. They adored it, and MIL said that it was really special.

For a present, how about arranging to have photos of all the extended family, and give them to them in a nice album ? Even nicer if you do a now and then, and get hold of their wedding photos, DH baby photos, etc so you can do a bit of a time line iyswim

Its my parents ruby anniversary this year, and like your PIL, they live a very simple life and don't like a fuss. Wracking my brains for something to do for them

My PIL Ruby Wedding last summer. We threw them a surprise garden party in our back garden - with afternoon tea and invited close family - and raided their address book for the best mand and bridesmaids. We booked PIL into a hotel for the night. We had no presents but donations for hospice where MIL works. They had a brilliant day.

I did it by asking to see the photos when they were talking about arranging the party - just in a 'ooh, I've never seen you in your wedding dress, can I have a nose at the pictures', and that would give you loads of opportunities to find stuff out.

The cake was simple - a fruit cake with fondant icing ( I ordered the right colour online so didn't have to mix it, just rolled it out and put it on), and then bought silk flowers and fiddled around with them until I was happy. They were taken apart a number of times !

Thankyou Ladders...was the hotel local you booked for that night or did you book a trip away?? Think PIL would like a night in a hotel but it would have to be quite local..and feel it is strange to stay the night so close to home but I think they would like that...hope I am making sense.

Also i need ideas for ruby red decorations etc etc for the house...like christmasy stuff ..but not..hope this makes sense. Also foods to eat.... well to pick at cause we will have eaten a 3 course meal but i feel I have to feed and offer "red drinks" to the guests!!!

The coloured icing is here

Celebration icing, which is a nice general shade, here

I just iced a big 40 on the cake as I'm useless at writing - I think you can buy readydone plaques with things written on them online too

Hi, my grandparents had their golden wedding last year and we had a lovely family lunch and at the lunch we presented them with a family picture that we had done without them knowing. It was all lovely and framed and everyone was dressed up etc. We also got a wedding cake done with their wedding picture on it and had golden balloons and ribbons on the tables. It was lovely.
