Pin the tail on the donkey/crown on the princess/light saber on the jedi
Musical statues/bumps
simon says
head shoulders knees and toes
dead lions

Hot potato is easier than pass the parcel, you can't hold on to it or you're the one that's out.

thats a good idea, i could find a power ranger poster in my ds's magazines and do pin (something) on the power ranger.

also dead lions sounds good. i can probably drag that out a bit

also, do you think it would be a bit 'funny' if i put name stickers on the kids as some of them i never met before and im not good with names

What is the dead lions one? (might be good for a party at toddlers group?)

juicychops · 17/01/2009 10:06

Get them to make their own stickers - crafty things work well at a party (if you have space!)

Balloon games - over heads, between knees, etc.

"Relay" type games??

Toilet roll mummies - with help

how many children?

the first bit will be the kids being excited and running around...let them do that until it gets too much, or gets boring for them, then whip out a few games...then food, thenm maybe a cd of some action songs...or from you tube...stuff like tweenies, doodle bops, high school musical, i am the music man etc...

they'll enjoy i'm sure...don't stress about being too organised. good luck!!

I just rememberd something, We DID a few years back organise a little party at home with children aged 3 to 5 (12 of them) I had planned a few games like pin the tail ... + a little quizz about cartoon character or humming a cartoon opening song and they have to guess which one it is. But, as DH was in charge of entertainment, he started asking the children their names, got one of them wrong and they all started laughing, they then all wanted a "turn" at being given the wrong name (why on earth they found that so funny is behond me!) half the party was actually spent like that!

I am sure they will have a lot of fun at your party, I think to keep it simple is key. Oh, one more "tip" it it is in your house, do noe under any circumstance let them go upstairs alone. If they need the toilet go with them!

musical islands........and as they all arrive get them to make said islands first.

I used to hand out shapes of paper (A4 size cut a little squiggly and islandy shaped), for them to colour in, and then later they used to place them scattered around the floor for the game.

basically then play the music, when it stops they have to jump on an island........you then remove an island as the turns go on until one is left.

if you are very organised, then get them to name the islands, and then before you play the game laminate them (obvioulsy you need a laminator for that job), and then at the end of the party they get to take their islands home for use as place mats.

the party is at macdonalds in the party room so there isn't huge amounts of space but at least there is no place for them to escape unsupervised! might do the design their own name stickers if they will be calm enough to sit down.

also im gunna fill a couple of bin liners with balloons and at some point tip them out everywhere. dont know weather to do that at the beginning when everyine is ariving, or do it towards the end before the parents come to collect

Love the ballons idea! to help clearing up each child could take a ballon back home when they leave!

Notquitegrownup · 17/01/2009 10:39

Good idea to do the balloons at the end. That way you can be prepared if a child is very scared of balloons. OK if parents are staying, they can just slip outside for a few minutes.

You can take along a few story books too. If everything gets a bit manic get them all sitting cross legged on the floor (they immediately go into school mode IME) and read the story, using Corionine's dh's technique of getting things wrong - eg Cinderella had two ugly brothers . . . They love calling out the correct version, so are having fun whilst sitting and listening too.

Best of luck

thats decided then balloons at the end. also gunna do some relay races with balloons between legs etc

im not looking forward to this party!
