party food box ideas please

DD is having a party for her 3rd birthday in a couple of weeks. I plan to do a little picnic box for each of the children (mainly due to where we are having the party, means less waste and less to tidy up). The same as the kind you usually get in cafes which fold into a box with a handle.
What would you put inside please? Would like opinions on balance of healthy/vs. party treat food! I have 13 children to cater for.
Thanks for any ideas to help make it a bit more interesting than a boring cellophane wrapped sandwich and a bag of crisps!

bump to try out festive name.

I tend to do really boring lunches for parties:
cold pizza slice
lumps of cheese
Cold sausages
a few grapes
cucumber chunks
mini box of smarties

I find the children then swap amongst themselves the bits they do/don't like.

Ask guests' mums for their favourite sandwich filling - eg ham, dairylea, marmite, jam. Cut off crusts and wrap them up.

a cheese portion eg babybel or similar

handful of pombear crisps in a bag

fairy cake

biscuit

juice box or kids sports bottle of water (something non-spill)

Thanks folks... So far I'm thinking.

Small bread roll (possibly homemade if I can be bothered) with either cold meat or cheese.
Cheese finger/babybel
Small bag crisps
Satsuma
mini muffin/cupcake or a chocolate chip cookie

Juice will be served in party cups.

Anyone know the best place to find the sandwich boxes?

ChippyMyrrhton · 08/12/2008 21:02

Menu sounds good. Who is going to peel all the satsumas though? Mind you the same may apply to the babybel.

Have you a local party shop for the boxes? Or (I suggested this on another thread) ask a takeaway for some plain paper carrier bags. Otherwise lots online.

Loads of parents going to be there, so will delegate satsuma peeling duty! I'm not sure, will google local party shop.

I just bought these from Ebay. We've black as DS is having a wheely bin themed party for his 2nd birthday

tinseltwiddler · 08/12/2008 21:28

Wheely bin theme? Really? I suspect there is a story there...
Thanks for link, will check it out.

Is it at lunchtime? It sounds a lot to me. I find they eat very little at parties unless it is actually lunch.

tinseltwiddler · 08/12/2008 21:41

You may be right. Food at 4pm though.
Any other inspired ideas?

ramonaquimby · 08/12/2008 21:42

don't do babybel - kids will love opening them and then lose interest (or most of them will)

I'd do juice boxes with 3 year olds, otherwise lots of potential spills

SniffyHock · 08/12/2008 21:46

A lady was in the Tesco cafe once when I was there loading up on those boxes - I must have looked at her strangely because she explained that it worked out cheaper to get them there. I think it's £1.99 for 5 items so she was getting a box and 5 drinks etc - so if you have 13 children that's boxes and 65 items for £26. She was just getting items she could keep - drinks, babybel, boxes of smarties, crisps. I don't know if it does work out cheaper but thought I'd share

tinseltwiddler · 08/12/2008 21:49

Will have to work that one out. Can't believe it would be cheaper though. Just priced up boxes at about £10 for a pack of twenty from ebay.

I always use these (scroll down to the party trays), as the DDs always seem to have themed parties.

I put in a couple of triangles of sandwich (1 ham, 1 cheese); a small bunch of grapes; a couple of carrot sticks; a little sausage or two; and a handful of crisps.

The kids always love these trays and they come with napkins and lidded cups (which I fill with diluted juice).

They look great - thanks so much!
