...what would you expect to see?

(want to check i haven't missed anything!)

There is no oven there so i can't do anything that should really be served hot, don't want any cocktail stick type things (lots of children who WILL poke each other)

I may have to bugger off to sort teas but will be back

LOVE a wedding buffet!! Prawn vol-au-vents .

why not steal ideas from M&S's party range - there's a list online.

MerlinsBeard · 25/11/2008 18:44

i am common northerner so that ok TMMJ

Am doing ok so far, have only missed satay sticks (but am i right that they are peanutty? - possible peanut allergic child) and vol au vents but have got mini pork pie bites instead (nicer imo!)

Sandwiches
Pringles/posh crisps
Dips
Little mini-tarts full of things like tuna&mayo or chopped egg
olives
Little smoked salmon bites
Chicken wings/drumsticks

Have a look in Iceland or similar, they do loads of stuff that you just need to thaw out or maybe heat then serve cold.

twoluvlykids · 25/11/2008 18:47

bread sticks
mini samosas

SoMuchToBits · 25/11/2008 18:47

You can't have mini pork pie bites instead of vol-au-vents. I would definitely expect vol-au-vents!

My SIL runs a social club, so puts buffets on all the time, she does a really nice seafood platter. A large glass filled with prawns etc and then large ones over the top and a dip.

A bakes hame, buttered bread rolls for people to make sanwiches themselves.
Salads - pasta, rice, potato
pork pies
scotch eggs
Bread sticks etc

A really nice touch is to do a seperate one for the children.

Sanwiches cut in to shapes
Party rings
Iced jems
jammy dodgers
mini sausages
tomatoe sauce
mini choc treats

ChippyMinton · 25/11/2008 18:51

something sweet?

JulesJules · 25/11/2008 18:54

Mini bagels with smoked salmon
mini chocolate eclairs

fingers

TheMadHouse · 25/11/2008 18:58

Loads of cakes
cheese cake
black forest gauteu

I am feeling rather retro

Majeika · 25/11/2008 18:59

WotsThatSkippy · 25/11/2008 19:00

Chicken!

And some yummy sweet things

Colditz · 25/11/2008 19:02

Mini sausages. Mini spring rolls. a cheese board and crackers.

stroppyknickers · 25/11/2008 19:03

pesto pasta salad, French bread, loads of cheeses, cold hams, a sort of theme rather than loads of random items. if you can be arsed, order lunch boxes and do a packed one for the children.

plantsitter · 25/11/2008 19:04

I wouldn't expect pickled onions, but I'd be delighted if there were some.

Kbear · 25/11/2008 19:15

jellied eels? cockles? mussels? alive alive-o

flowerybeanbag · 25/11/2008 19:19

Sliced meats, cheeses, quiche or little tartlets, french bread, potato salad, pasta salad, coleslaw, pickles, sausage rolls or similar, bowls of mixed salad leaves.

flowerybeanbag · 25/11/2008 19:20

That's what I'd do anyway, not necessarily what I'd expect.

travellingwilbury · 25/11/2008 19:23

I would always do a ham and lots of bread and pickle .

Mini quiche
a cheeseboard and crackers
sausage rolls for sure

DrNortherner · 25/11/2008 19:32

salmon (poached and dressed or smoked) surrounded by lemon wedges and prawns.

Pasta salad, potato salad, sarnies, crisps, bread sticks and dips, chicken drumsticks, corned beef pie..

callmeovercautious · 25/11/2008 19:33

Flowery - you should have been at my Wedding - That's what we did

MOM if you are buying things and doing it yourself there are loads of offers on Party food right now but I would avoid the Iceland ones (yuck!). Don't buy sausage rolls though, they are easy to make and everyone will notice you made the effort!

For Dessert go for Proffiteroles and Fruit Salad. Big cakes mean people take big slices and it gets messy.

Good Luck!

CatMandu · 25/11/2008 19:38

Sushi.

flowerybeanbag · 25/11/2008 19:56
