Bouncy Castle - Dangerous?

DS2 is desperate to have a BC at his 6th birthday party.

DH has muttered somehting about taking out PI insurence - because well end up needing it.

So does 15 6y0 boys + 1 bouncy caslte = stupid idea?

ave an adult on policing duties, keep the numbers bouncing to say four or six at a time, minimse the risk of an accident.

We have had bouncy castle parties before and that's how we managed.

So if I have a BC in the hall (closely supervised) for them to play on as they arive - then do traditional party games - some tea, and then a pinata, adn a bit more bouncing - will that be um, OK?

DS1's 6th party was the one where they were at their crazyest.

Can I come ? Sounds fab

Of course you can come - but you will have to do bouncy casle supervising.

IME bouncy castles are managable when children are of a similar age. Serious accidents are more likely when there is quite a mix of ages.

How much is the insurance? My sister's friend says you wouldn't believe the number of cases of injury by Bouncy Castles.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/11/2008 13:11

Lynnette that was superb delegation !

How about a bouncy slide instead/aswell? I think they are less dangerous because less bouncing up and down on top of one another. I would say closely supervise - 6YO boys are bonkers at parties.

I'd be more worried about the pinata:

small boys + large stick = danger

We've been to a fair few parties with bouncy castles (and hosted one) and, IFAIK, there was no insurance policy in place. They've just had an adult policing it.

I've hosted 2 parties with bouncy castles. One for a 4 yr old and 1 for a 5 yr old.
For the 4 yr old one, we had an adult standing permanent guard ready to yank kids off when necessary. THe rest of the children played party games or charged round the hall as 4 yr olds do.
|For the other one they were split into teams of about 6 - and had coloured bands. They were then rotated so one team on bouncy castle while other 3 teams played games. This took a lot or organisation but meant that the numbers on the bouncy castle were stricly controlled (and my dh was in charge of the castle) and the other kids were all occupied. We had no incidents - but I am quite pleased we will never have to do it again!

We had bouncy castle for ds's 5th party and my dh says "never again" - you need to police it to make sure there are not too many kids on at once and I agree that the problems arise when there's a mix of ages. We let groups of children on 5 mins at a time and let smaller children on separately. My DH also made sure that any children mucking around were hauled off the castle straightaway.
The kids do love bouncy castles....
