Don't do it! Take her and 3 mates to zoo/cinema/pizza hut/sleepover instead

That was helpful wasn't it?

I'll be watching this thread as DD 9 soon (very soon) and we haven't a clue what to do.

I started a thread about possible sleepover a few days ago but not convinced its a good idea

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 11:59

i just had a peak at that norbert,
i havent booked hall yet and have chickened out of holding it in the house
perhaps we should do a joint one?

We had a party at home last year (an arts and crafts one, good fun, bloody hard work planning and running it but at least it was over in 2 hours).

Sleepover is less planning etc but the stress and pain is drawn out for longer IYSWIM

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 12:05

so what did they make with arts and crafts?

i might have to go down that route - a real Brownies age isnt it

we are having one arty for ds for his 5th
after that it will be no more than 3 friends coming to the cinema, pizza hut, bowling etc
I am spending every other weekend at parties for the whole class, I can only stand one year of this

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 12:08

i think we might have toffee apples and apple bobbing,
perhaps they could draw a picture of a fire work

dd1 had a swimming party for her 9th, was a big hit. Does your local pool offer them?

I loathe arts & crafts so no suggestions from me there

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 12:09

she doesnt want a swimming party, - unfortunately - or a roller skating party or a zoo party.
sigh

We ordered some stuff from Baker Ross (sequin heart things IIRC and some photo frames with stuff to decorate them with).

I specifically chose low-mess activities ie. no paint or runny glue (I'm not daft! )

If anyone can recommend somewhere other than Baker Ross I'd be very gratefull as I need some new ideas***

NorbertDentressangle · 22/10/2008 12:14

Other options we considered were:

Swimming
LaserQuest
Ten Pin Bowling
Pottery painting (in a ceramics cafe-type place)
Horse-riding

but they were all too ££££ or not practical from the point of view of location or didn't offer chance for a party tea with the activity so you'd have to transport all the party goers back to ours or somewhere else to eat

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 12:17

having to rule out the ££££ at the moment. hence the house/hall. do it yourself type party -
it will be fun fun fun

just make the party quite late on in the day so that you don't feel so guilty pouring yourself a large bucket glass of wine as soon as you close the door and wave goodbye to the last guest

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 12:22

that is good advice
