8 and 9 are hard.... too old for parties, too young for the decent stuff.
How about:
bowling
swimming,
cinema
go karts
football,
treasure hunt
something arty
some sort of bouncy number (but they get too boisterous imo)
sleepover with football dvd's!

we had a treasure hunt last year in the garden at night.
(end of Oct btw) it poured with rain but they loved it and were fully kitted out in rain wear. I bought loads of those glow in the dark things to see by and we had a £50 box of light it once and have a firework display things. It was fantastic and they had a great time.

We did bowling for my ds1 8th and is was great fun and perfect for 10 - 2 lanes with 5 on each. Then food after. He is a winter baby so not many outdoors type things.

For his 7th we had a disco etc and then surprise trip to DLP.

DS did go-karting for his 8th. Was molto fun. Trouble is that (a) numbers restricted to around half a dozen and (b) many places don't take them unless they are over 8, so you need to check birthdays of friends.

Lazerquest is fab as well

Like the idea of treasure hunt

Good luck

All great ideas - big thanks. I love the idea of a treasure hunt but living in London with a small garden it could be Game Over before it has begun!! Ingles2 is right - too old for a party but still wants the pressies!!

I know of bowling allies, pools, streatham karts and cinemas but not of any lazer places in south London. Any ideas? I think the karting would be good and I am happy to restrict to 10 but the young chap wants more friends Is this just tough?!!
