would you invite to a party at home in the winter?

8 because that's how many could fit round our table for the party tea. And I'd make it a very structured party so they didn't go mental in my small house.

MorocconOil · 30/08/2008 14:24

We've had 10. It was very structured to keep them all busy, and to prevent fights breaking out.

elliott · 30/08/2008 14:27

I am planning to do some very structured games (probably in two teams like a mini olympics). Will do these outside if it is dry but they need to be transferable to inside...
Any good game thoughts? I've thought of some simple relay team games, interspersed with sit down challenges like a memory tray.
I was thinking in terms of 8-10 but just wanted to check I'm not being completely mad....(ds2 himself is reasonably manageable, its the unknown quantities that scare me!)

5 plus the party boy. Agree, needs to be well-organised.

elliott · 30/08/2008 14:31

How would you organise/structure it? How many helpers?
ANy advice very gratefully received (at least I've got 3 months to plan it...)

blow cotton wool balls across a finishing line with a straw.

MorocconOil · 30/08/2008 14:40

Do you know the chocolate game? It's always been popular at our parties.

Basically a dice is thrown until you get a 6, then that person puts on a hat, scarf and gloves and then starts to eat a bar of chocolate with a knife and fork. The other players continue to throw the dice and when someone gets a 6 they take over putting on the gloves etc.

They've also loved the 'Mummy Game' where 2 teams compete to dress one member in an unravelled toilet roll.

yy beetle drive fantastic for 7 yr olds.

Pizza making - get those mini bases, various toppings - ham/pineapple/pepperoni/sliced mushrooms.

tippit is a great game and works with four per team.

Good luck.

suedonim · 30/08/2008 14:42

Invite two or three girls too! Ime, having girls around calms the atmosphere a bit, plus most small girls like to help organise things.

pointydog · 30/08/2008 14:42

yes - making monster faces on pizzas very popular here

MorocconOil · 30/08/2008 14:45

Parachute games are good if it's dry outside and you have a garden.

pointydog · 30/08/2008 14:49

and if you have a parachute

MorocconOil · 30/08/2008 14:52

Think ELC sell them for £10

pointydog · 30/08/2008 14:53

ah

elliott · 30/08/2008 15:02

beetle drive??
don't fancy trying to control cooking...
My tentative plan is this:
Making masks or treasure chests on arrival
Treasure hunt at the end of which they end up in two groups (will need to have two types of prizes in the hunt)
mini-olympics (team games with an overall winner/runner up) - medal ceremony (gold and silver medals)
music games if needed
tea
err, not sure what afterwards - dvd if I can find a way of projecting it big enough.

I think if I add girls that would make it 10 rather than 8...
We will have: ds1 and ds2; two friends from ds1's old school; that only leaves four 'new' people from his new school and I am sure they will all be boys. There are 2 girls I could invite from his old school but I am not sure that it is really worth it tbh...

Ah yes! I've played that - can't remember what is was called in my day (insect game perhaps??)

Forget about girls

OK, so how many games do I need? How many adults? How many stiff drinks
I haven't done a home party before so I'm rather nervous - closest I came was letting ds1 have 3 friends for tea for his 5th birthday, which was really not much fun. Will be more organised this time!

I do home parties m,yself. You shouldn't need more adults. Maybe one.
