I'm hosting a cocktail party - seemed a great idea at the time I sent out invites. However, I know nothing about cocktails. Any favourites? tips on food? It's happening tomorrow tonight rather than next week so suddenly I'm - so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Yes i stick a menu of about 4 to the wall and do big jugs of them

Then have your most attractive party guests going around with a jug in each hand, because who can resist the Nice Jugs pun?

And WHATEVER you do, just drink juice for the first hour, or until everyone arrives

One margarita and you will snogging people as they arrive

Capirinhas (sp?)are delicious. Wait, I will google...

Right. Here we go:

  • cachaca
  • sugar
  • ice
  • a lime

in a glass, put lime cut into wedges, sprinkle with sugar, mush with back of wooden spoon till sugar is dissolved. add crushed ice 3-4 ounces of cachaca.

Cachaca is like white rum, but you can buy it in supermarkets these days I think.

My top tip - make them STRONG. People will drink two, be quite delighted, and you can then substitute with beer, or anything else.

Before we had kids we had a cocktail party every year, black tie the works , food wise it was " spud u like " used to do jacket pots and then lots of different fillings kitch in fun way just very 80's, also meant that people had lots of carbs !

my DH loves playing the bar man so just passed round books and got people to pick, but the menu thing is a good idea, also made jugs of a couple of cocktails to get things started, long drinks things like long island iced tea and sea brezze !!

I am very reminds me of some very happy times !! what I can remember that is !!

you should DO IT STILL

we are having a New year's Party this year - start at 4pm, everyone wears black tie/cocktail dress and brings their children

party food for the children

disco lights

after a few cocktails there is so much noise that no one notices the children

everyone goes home throwing up at 9pm

it's great

Re: Food - keep it simple! Lots of nibbly bits. Quiche (store bought), pizza, olives, garlic bread, pates, tortilla chips, salsa ....

It sounds like so much fun!
