Thanks things are pretty tight for us at the minute and any tips on how to do a celebration cheaply would be much appreciated.
Previously we have had our other two dc's at the local function room in the pub.
I have dug out dd1 dress and am hoping it will ry clean so she can wear that, i also still have her shawl so will be usig that.
I have got the invites off ebay and that's all i have done.

cheapest option is not to have a meal, just tea and cake in the church hall/garden after the service

I have enquired about the hall ad it's £50 but they provide staff as it has a licensed bar.
Do you think people would be ok with that a luch time ?

ask people to bring food instead of presents.

Ask people to bring lunch and join you for a picnic afterwards. You can provide fizzy wine - Bucks fizz is cheap and summery. For a cake - don't make or pay for a big one but go down the cupcakes route. I did 20 odd for my dd's dedication - spelling out her name with a letter on each and date. They looked pretty and were really easy to hand round!

I go with NorthernLurker - that sounds like a great day.

We went to a christening on Sunday and people were asked to bring a plate or two of food to share.

It was held at a local farm, and there was no alcohol, no christening cake and it was all very lovely

Love the cake idea NL that's a lovely idea i think even my poor cookery skills could stretch to that.
Was thinking as it's August maybe i could do a picnic / barbecue at home but didn't know if providing drink etc would cost more in the long run. (although doesn't guarantee good weather i guess)

I like the idea of inviting everyone to join you for a picnic in the park afterwards. Just pretty pastel cupcakes would be fun, and a splash of something fizzy all round (Pimms would be nice as an alternative to Bucks Fizz), and you're sorted.

That sounds really nice actually
