I’m making a rectangular cake for my son’s second birthday. I’m just wondering if anyone has any guest recipes for this…

It’s tractor theme so if anyone’s done something similar please let me know any tips!

I’d go with regular sponge.

decide on how many eggs you want. Probably 6 or more.

weigh all the eggs ( in shell). That is your “magic number”

weigh magic number of butter (soft not fridge cold), caster sugar and self raising flour into a a big bowl. Add 3 tsp baking powder, 2 teaspoons vanilla essence and 6 tablespoons milk.

mix it all together with a hand held electric mixer.

pour in tin. Bake.

Madeira sponge holds up well to being decorated and cuts up well, it’s a bit firmer and stays fresher longer than Victoria sponge recipe. So you can make it a day or two ahead to decorate day before party if that helps. Might need to slice the peak off. I’ve used it for birthday cakes a lot. I’d google tractor cakes to get ideas. Often people have used old fashioned sweets or biscuits in clever ways to make edible wheels and lights etc . Hope it goes well and you have fun doing it ! https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/madeiracake73878
