Birthday party

My DD in reception wants to do a disco birthday party. I don’t mind but worried it won’t be something people bother to show up for. I think I will need an entertainer for it to be doable?! Want to be able to invite the whole class but feel like there is more pressure on a party being special/exciting when doing so than rather just invite her close friends??

It’s been a while since my little one was 5, but we had parties, and reception and KS1 are good as you can get to know the parents better. I’d go for a place where they provide the food and entertainment- although expensive. You could look at gyms or soft play. We’ve had a disco party in a hall but also had an entertainer so that the children can be occupied. Lots of princess parties and captain fantastic if they still do parties. You’d have to do the food but Costco do big platters are sandwiches and fruit etc. my niece had one in hall, did the food ourselves, but she hired some soft play blocks and a bouncy castle. It’ll be mad any way- but I think it’s a good thing. Not everyone will be bow to make it. The other way is to do just her friends like a jump park and I think it’s limited to 12-15. I stuck to the girls one year so it didn’t seem like I was excluding for any reason. Good luck!

Why wouldn’t people come? It’s reception parents want to get to know the kids and parents.

5 year olds don’t have special friends - they have friends.

Do what suits your budget.

An entertainer is expensive and unnecessary - put on some dance ties and play dance games.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and the party. People will always not turn up but I don’t think anybody would turn their nose up specifically at a disco or have such high expectations. Parents just want their child kept busy for a few hours so they can sit down! It’s also a great time in reception for a party as a lot of parents will be wanting to get to know their child’s new classmates and the parents.

Getting an entertainer would be easier and they’d have proper equipment for a disco but it depends on whether you have the speakers and confidence to do it yourself.

You’ll probably want to break up the dancing with games which again an entertainer would do but you may be confident enough to do these yourself.
