Hey all, so my daughter who is 4yrs old got invited to a birthday party from School. We are vegetarians, I’m a little bit worried their might not be vegetarian option at the party.
so I haven’t mentioned it to the mum I just thought it’s not her stress, shall I mention it?

on the other hand I was thinking don’t mention it and pack my daughters lunch and if there isn’t any vegetarian options she has some food in her bag?

thoughts please?!

Definitely say something. Vegetarian is easy peasy, if you know you need to do it. It's not like she's going to have to be running round the shops searching for things that don't contain some random, common ingredient, it's just popping in a veggy or margrita pizza, or having some cheese sandwiches as well and ham!

I'd absolutely mention it. However I am very concerned about a 4yr old being vegetarian.

Very concerned for what reason?!

I've never been to a kids party without vegetarian options so I wouldn't worry about putting them out, but I'd let them know anyway.

If I were hosting I'd want to know so that I could make sure the venue labelled vegetarian options clearly and so that I could make sure your DC was offered suitable food before everyone got stuck in.

Thank you all, I have let her know x

and for anyone who’s worried about my DD being a vegetarian, please don’t be worried, she is perfectly healthy and enjoys her food.!

thanks all x

I always ask for dietary requirements when I send out party invites as I know a couple of
my son’s friends have a muslim father so they don’t eat pork etc. Most invites he gets ask about dietary requirements.

I'm vegetarian but I wouldn't expect my child to be catered as such outside of my home. A sausage roll or such isn't going to hurt them and they get to choose their path as they get older. I just think making them 'different' at a young age due to your choices (and very moral choices which I completely agree with) is a mistake. My thoughts.

I love this perspective.

Being vegetarian isn’t unusual though is it?
I wouldn’t even consider catering for a group of people of any age without including vegetarian options.

There’s so many children with dietary requirements be it for choice, allergy or religious reasons it’s really not a big deal.
