We are having a bouncy castle for ds1's 7th birthday party.

brimfull · 02/06/2008 12:40

6 is a good age fro party games

OrmIrian · 02/06/2008 12:42

How many guests?

Have you somewhere in the country you could take them - with a picnic? If you can arrange transport. Or even to a local park.

DD had a picnic party at a local beauty spot where there were permanent BBQs and tables. And another at Hestercombe House - big and interesting garden full of stuff to keep LOs happy for hours.

Can you hire a hall somewhere? I've done that before. Music, tons of balloons, a few games and then food.

ja9 · 02/06/2008 12:49

paintballing! i'd have thought he was much oo young for this - it really hurts!! have seen horrid bruies from it, could a 6yo really cope?

what about hiring a community centre and do a traditional party with a theme eg dinosaur, pirate, jungle, lazy town etc.

trace2 · 02/06/2008 12:56

yes just lloked paintballing to young, i may ring round for a hall and do a pirtes party

How about a farm trip / party? I'm not in your area, but Cannon Hall Farm (in Cawthorne - S. Yorks so might be near you) do parties - or if they're booked up you could see if you can take the kids on a trip there & have a picnic rather than the organised party. There's the huge park there too & if it's June you might be lucky with the weather!

DS had 2 farm parties (in november!) and loved them - the kids get to roam around, feed the animals, etc.

Hulababy · 02/06/2008 13:11

Hire a hall and then let them have loads of free pla time. Perhaps get a buncy castle. If going for pirate theme why not have some pirate themed party games, and maybe a craft table to make pirate hats.

Aniyan · 02/06/2008 13:12

There's a cafe there too, if it does rain (I'm not on commission, honest!)

DS#1 had a pirate party for his first school b'day. We had a pirate island treasure map - they had to put a pin where they thought the treasure was hidden on a map. The nearest won a prize. We hid chocolate coins round the place. DH and I dressed up (which seriously impressed the children . And then the usual games.

TBH they spent the first 30 mins running round hitting each other with plastic cutlasses.

tortoiseSHELL · 02/06/2008 14:03

trace2 - ds1's party is going to be a pirate theme - we have booked the church hall, and a pirates of the caribbean bouncy castle. I'm also going to make blank treasure maps (rip the edges of A4 paper, then soak in tea) for them to make, and a few piratey games (pin the parrot on the pirate), treasure hunt, dressing up etc, then pirate food.

Not sure if too late but my godson's 6th birthday party was a "sports day" party in the village hall. Had different activities (basket ball, garden darts, hula hoops etc) in different areas of hall. Divided kids into groups and rotated. Gave prizes for highest scores etc. it went down really well with kids and parents were pleased that not another soft play party!

I'm in Bristol so may not be helpful as they can only deliver to a fairly local area because of food standards but I used a really brilliant company called Rascals Fayre www.rascalsfayre.co.uk who organise and deliver everything required to run and host a childrens cooking party. Also the kids take all the equipment they've used home and the cookies they've baked so no need for party bags. They recommend ages 6 up but my 5 year old had no problems. They also supplied a sheet which gave numerous tips and ideas to make it all run smoothly. It was fantastic. In fact I know of one little boy who still gets his apron out everyday to help his mum!!

2boys2 · 26/06/2008 19:48

our local cinema does parties really cheap.
go-karting
disco
bowling

these are the ones my 4yr old has attended
