hi. my fab friend is 24, has two little girls, and is getting married next year.

the actual ceremony and chapel bit is taken care of...she will marry her partner, and they will get their girls christened at the same time. the after celebration is the bit where she just can't decide what to do.....

she is really unconventional..is family and child orientated, is very free and easy. have a fairly limited budget (up to about 3k absolute maximum) and want to have something a little different and memorable.

she has 30 people who HAVE to be there, but if size no object, then up to about 130!

would love your stories, ideas, suggestions for something a bit out of the ordinary please!

themed weddings irredeemably naff imo

just throw a party

even tho she is unconventional a bit of formality / structure is there to provide a guide so everyone knows what they are doing, re: eating / dress/ entertainment, then everyone can relax and concentrate on having a good time.

a buffet, some outdoor space, a bar, some dancing, speeches, some cheese, and balloons for the kids, all this can be as tasteful/tacky/conventional/creative as you wish.

a friend of mine had wedding at a campsite, everyone had to liaise with the brides mother about what food to bring

agree that themes are to be avoided unless it's in the loosest possible way.

Just wanted to say that the weddings I've remembered most are the ones which have been a really comfortable experience for me as a guest!!!! Remember people are selfish and MOST of the time they are not looking fondly at the bride and groom and thinking about their romantic life story; they are thinking of their feet, and their stomachs

so feed them enough, (and don't keep them waiting hours), provide drinks, and plenty of comfortable seating in a place that's not too hot or too cold.....and they'll think it's a fantastic wedding IMO regardless of what else happens

I tihnk on the budget they've got they want to keep it simple; as in, don't try and be too conventional as in wedding, photos, lunch, speeches, evening disco, buffet, etc etc....just do one or two aspects WELL rather than EVERYTHING on the cheap

Is there a zoo local to them? Went to a wedding recently at ours and it was lovely, the children get guaranteed entertainment and it was informal but atmospheric
