Help!
I've left it too late to order a sandwich platter and other kids party food from Morrisons which I've used before for kids birthday party on Saturday. Can you recommend anything similar?

Do you definitely want to buy them in, not make them? What’s your budget, and how many children / adults?

2in2022twoyearson · 18/06/2025 07:07

18 children, no adults. 7 year olds, and lots don't eat much at parties.

And I haven't really thought of a budget, was going to spend around £40 I think on the food to go, 2 sandwiches platters and maybe one other thing. I've already got crisps and biscuits. Probably wouldn't want to go more than £60

I have thought I could make them. I don't have loads of time as I'm working Thursday and Friday and got swimming lessons Saturday morning before the party. I have today off (with a toddler), would sandwiches made now be nice still on Saturday? I think not but maybe ham cheese and egg would? As long as there's no salad in them.

No they would be grim by Saturday! Please dont do this!

Costco sell sandwich platters to take away that day, but the fillings may not be that child friendly. I think you will have to make them on the day.

Don’t know if they are doing this at the moment because of their cyber issues but I’ve used M&S before for sandwiches and they were great. Ordered on line and nominated local store for pickup. Easy. Well presented. Delicious. You could pick eg vegetarian, kids, gluten free options.

It'll only take half an hour max. Make them after swimming, I recommend hundreds and thousands sandwiches for a kids party.

friskybivalves · 18/06/2025 07:16

I don’t remember having to order them ages in advance?

2in2022twoyearson · 18/06/2025 07:16

M&s is 4 days same as Morrisons unfortunately

Pizza delivery? Local independent cafe?

This is what I was going to say, it doesn't have to be sandwiches a load of pizzas with all different topping would be perfect. For one of my dd we got every kid a happy meal

AKAanothername · 18/06/2025 07:30

Just order a load of normal pre-made sandwiches, cut them into quarters and put them on a serving platter.

oneplustwoplustwoplusone · 18/06/2025 07:35

Don’t bother with sandwiches? Get some pre made pinic-y bits instead? Sausage rolls/cocktail sausages/chicken bits etc

Cerialkiller · 18/06/2025 07:37

Prep the filling in the morning of the party. You don't need many for young kids. Tuna mayo, cheese, ham is plenty. Make sandwiches in pairs, e.g. two ham so four slices of bread and stack them on to of each other (so bead, ham bread, bread ham bread) then use a sharp bread knife to quarter the sandwiches then pull out each double quarter to present on a plate.

Really has to be done shortly before the party though.

I do agree with pp though. What about pittas or wraps and you can just put out bowls of fillings, cheese, grated carrot, hummus etc.

Pizza is a great idea, you could just buy a load of frozen an cook as needed.

Alongthetowpath · 18/06/2025 07:39

If you don’t want to make them, could you pick up some ready made sandwiches from the supermarket on the morning of the party and just cut them up smaller? That shouldn’t take long.

If they are under 7, I would cut each big triangle into 4, if older just Cut in half.
Depending on age and appetite, either one box between two, two boxes between three, or one box per head.

You can usually get child friendly fillings (and they are usually the cheaper ones anyway), and you can choose the exact amount you want. I would get plain ham, plain cheese, egg mayo and maybe chicken and sweetcorn.

Thanks, I'm keen on pizza, rembered was considering pizza's back when I did invites then changed my mind. DH is less keen on pizzas... Maybe he can make sandwiches then. Thanks for your suggestions. We have one child who can't have dairy or egg, but ok with a hand sandwiches, she'd have to have a cheese free or vegan cheese pizza.

Do pizza and herta hotdogs

NewsdeskJC · 18/06/2025 07:54

Buy a huge tub of cocktail sausages, which will get eaten and make about 5 sandwiches to throw away later!

2in2022twoyearson · 18/06/2025 07:56

@NewsdeskJC haha, I have noticed that, but my DD will eat all 5 sandwiches. She's also asked for cut of fruit and veg.

If you go for sandwiches, if you take them out of the packaging then make sure you cover them with a slightly damp CLEAN tea towel till the last minute. It keeps them nice and fresh and stops them going dry.

Pizzas are a fine idea.

Egg sandwiches are my fave and they freeze well though take more time to make.
Three simple sandwich fillings are cheese, cheese and ham, and ham and relish - all can be made with lovely butter and cut, wrapped and frozen until Saturday. Kids won't eat many as they'll choose pizza, but you can always toast leftovers for tea.
