Can;t imagine why not.

I probably wouldn't do it, just because it might seem like you were making a bit of a statement and you will probably get mildly judgy comments all day.

I think colour other than red (or black) is perfectly fine.

Is it a catholic christening??

If it is then yes she can - for the first bit, in fact i think it would be fairly good. In a catholic ceremony they are supposed to wear a dark colour and then when they are baptised they change into the white, to represent the removal of original sin. Can't speak for a non catholic ceremony.

I would however question why you are bothering to have her christened if you want her to wear red all the way through, christening is symbollic after all so........Im sorry, if i were in the congregation, i would be getting my Ms Judgy pants ready.

They're supposed to wear white because it symbolises the purity of Christ (or something similar - I only know because I put my child in beige and then they said something about white in the service and felt a bit thick).

My DH was baptised in a plastic mac (his choice age 3). It depends on the style of your church, but at ours (not the same one DH was baptised at years ago) I'm sure it would be fine. Unconventional but fine.

Didn't know about the clothes change for RC Baptism. Wow.

ROTFL about the raincoat - i reckon our preist would have been crossing himself left right and centre over that

mybabycelebrationcouk · 24/05/2008 15:00

Traditionally the christening robe was white to symbolise purity and innocence (like the white wedding dress).

I would agree with mrsgboring that it depends on how conventional your priest is - my cousin was christened in a fairy outfit including full wings and a wand! - but it may be worth broaching the subject with him in advance to avoid anything spoiling things on the day.

Have a fab time!

In a RC Christening, child can wear anything parent wants, but is wrapped in a white blanket for the actual christening bit.
