A mother was telling me today that her dd wouldn't have parties anymore now she's in junior school, just birthday outings with friends.

Is that the norm?

oh yes. everyone does it

Oh, I wish it was, I really do.

About 50/50 around here. Parties get smaller though and start to mutate into sleepovers.

sounds a good idea to me

if only. some children's parties mutate into smaller excursions/sleepovers, other just escalate in size/ambition and cost (think 20 kids paintballing at £25+/head, or disco parties for 70 and so on)

ds took six friends bowling for 8th and 9th birthdays. For his 10th, three of them went to cinema. We provided pizza supper after all of these.

me and DB stopped at 7, did not bother us, we had treats instead.

Last party when they turn 6, day out with mate/s for subsequent birthdays.

I made my last birthday party cake this month.

DS had his last big party aged 9, which was a football party.

DS2's last "party" was at 14

(I had nowt to do with it, they had 5-a-side or thereabouts at an indoor soccer place and then burgers or something but still, it was a birthday do!)
