New years eve wedding?

A friend of mine asked for my opinion. Am a bit stuck so need your opinions. She and DP are considering getting married on new years eve. She asked me what I thought of this as an idea.

I personally think it is daft as people will probably be skint after christmas and less likely to be able to travel, get time off work having just been off for christmas.

Dont want to be too harsh on her as she thinks its is a cool, quirky idea.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm. I agree with you I think. If it was say in London and most people going lived in London that might be all right, but if people are having to travel a long way having done the motorway schlep to parents/ in laws, it might make their heart sink a little. I like winter weddings though.

Baaaaaaaaaaaad idea, unless she's trying to keep costs down by having almost no guests!

Glad you agree. Was thinking maybe I was being unreasonable. I for one know that I wouls struggle to go as will have already travelled across the country for christmas. Need to find kind ways to put them off the idea. They are the sort that will be really miffed if people dont make the effort.

Bad idea DP and I thought about it for a nano second .
She will get charged double for people like photographers and the like as they will not want to work NYE unless it is worth their while.

If she really wants a chrismassy wedding she should try early DEC as venues will be already decorated for Christmas and suppliers wont be as busy as summer weddings .

Would have to be local - so people don't have to book hotels and accomodation as costs would be sky hire. Similarly for taxis.

Also couldn't do child free - cost of New Year babysitters would prevent any parents coming for sure.

Also lots of people will have been away or busy for Christmas and may not want to travel again.

We got married New Year's Eve- it was during the 14 days we are the same age.... and I wanted to be before 30 .DH chose the date as he wouldn't forget our anniversary so he claimed.

Of course we failed to take account of the fact we'll never be able to get a babysitter or a restaurant booking for any anniversaries grrr.

Was a very special day though!
Crystal clear, blue skies, coldest day of the year- with tiny ice crystals in the air- gorgeous!
