Hey, which one would be more appropriate/interesting for a baby turning 1, and why? Deep sea world or Five sisters zoo?

Thanks!

Honestly I don’t think a baby turning one will really care - better to save your money till they’re older.

marcopront · 04/11/2024 04:01

Most appropriate for a 1 year old

The park
A box covered in wrapping they can tear off

What would you enjoy more?

ApolloandDaphne · 04/11/2024 06:02

It would depend on how long you wanted to be out or what the weather was like. The zoo on a nice day would be lovely to stroll around and get some lunch (I've not been but I'm going by my visits to Edinburgh zoo which is lovely but hilly). Deep Sea world is quite expensive and once you've been round on the travelator there isn't much else that would captivate a tot, however it would be fine to do on a rainy day. I would probably go for the zoo if possible.

I don't think a baby of 1 will understand that it's a birthday party for them.
I would save your money- put it aside for future parties when they'll actually appreciate what you're doing for them on their special day
Have a little celebration at home instead with a few friends/ family and watch them get in a right mess with the cake!

orchid81 · 04/11/2024 06:42

Neither. They're not going to understand or appreciate it. Small party at home with empty boxes wrapped up, cake and family would be more appropriate.

mitogoshigg · 04/11/2024 07:07

Neither, for a one year they are better with a sandwich and homemade cake at home. They don't need friends to be invited either so just invite anybody you want to be there.

MiddleAgedDread · 04/11/2024 07:09

1 year olds love watching animals, ignore the naysayers!! Last I heard the deep sea world had very little fish in it and reviews were poor. 5 sisters is meant to be good, or Edinburgh zoo if you can face the hill!

Mountainyapyap · 04/11/2024 07:10

How do you want to celebrate your dc first birthday - what would make you most happy? Do that.

Attictroll · 04/11/2024 07:13

They won't care...I think 1st birthdays are a bit of a shared celebration with mum as well and family.
Save those till 2nd or 3rd birthday and just have cuddles, family and balloons and a glass of champagne for you making it through the year!

MumOfEmi · 04/11/2024 09:44

Thank you everyone. We actually WILL be doing something on the birthday this is non-negotiable and not the point of my question either. Was just looking for opinions on which of the 2 is best.

I've done both. At this time of year I'd say Deep Sea World because at least you'll be dry. There's also more chance of baby seeing/watching fish in the tanks.
Five sisters is great but like all these things you don't always see the animals and it's all outdoors if the weather is miserable - Which lets be honest there's every chance it will be.

ARichtGoodDram · 04/11/2024 10:20

Five sisters is much better if you're looking for a whole day out. Deep sea world better if you're looking for a couple of hours and indoors.

Depending on time of year Five sisters has their Christmas lights as well.

Best is subjective.
Your one year old won't care.
What would you prefer?

We care though. Was just looking for opinions between the 2. Thanks.

Thanks, there are only 2 options available though (the aforementioned).

Well not my question, we'll be doing one of the 2 things mentioned in case you have some feedback on the topic.

Thanks, I appreciate the positive comment! Why so much negativity though... It's our decision to do something and was just looking for some feedback from people that may have done one or both.

What do you think about Craigies little farmers? The zoo may be overwhelming and we're really taking a risk with November weather 😆

OP posts:
MiddleAgedDread · 04/11/2024 11:35

I've not been to Craigies. The National Museum might be a back up option if the weather is poor, there's a huge (stuffed) animal room and some interactive things for little ones.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2024 11:35

Having been to similar places rather than those specific ones, it probably depends on the weather more than anything else. At either of them, how interesting it is for the baby likely depends more on their interaction with you than the thing itself.
