Birthday party guidance needed!

My DD started preschool mid term, she's made a few friends but I haven't met any of the parents yet. Her birthday is in a month and I have to decide if we do something small at home for family friends or invite the whole class (33 kids, 15-20 pounds per child at a venue). She's been invited to two parties that will happen after hers. I need to send invites now if it's to happen at all and it does feel strange to invite strangers to a birthday party, equally it doesn't feel tight to attend everyone else's without arranging something ourselves?

Keep it small this year.

I'd keep it small this year, preschool parties can be expensive and overwhelming!

Thanks, what do I do with the invites for the other parties then - attend or opt out? I don't want my DD to miss out, and I want to get to know people but don't want to come across as cheeky to not return the favour.

No one minds if not everyone does a big party, otherwise they'd have to go to 33 of them! You just get the child a present. And they'll be pleased to have your kid there as it'd be rubbish for their child if noone turned up.

Village hall, pass the parcel, homemade cake and finger food. That's max £100 including party bags. Everyone has a good time and it isn't in an awful softplay.
Plus it's a nice way to meet other parents and, you know, sociable.

Personally wouldn’t bother for pre school. Make the effort in reception when they have to spend years with the same kids.
ask her who her besties are and invite a few over/do something/local soft play.

Yes this was our approach too.

Absolutely fine to attend other parties without reciprocating the invitation.
