What 'activity' for a girl's 4th birthday?

I have not been a very creative mother so far, hence my need to ask a question that might seem a bit dumb to some.

For my dd's party I am going to give them some snacks and do a 'making' activity when they first arrive. It is meant to be a small party for around 10 of them. What is a suitable activity do you reckon?

dressing up around a theme?
eg we did pirates for ds third birthday and made/decorated pirate hats - could do fairy wands for eg if you happened to want something more girly

all lie down on big roll of paper on the floor and be drawn around and decorate themselves

ice and decorate soem fairy cakes or biscuits?

I went to a party where the kids were given a plain gingerbread men, an individual pot of icing and variety of toppings to decorate the gingerbread men. They had fun decorating him and then eating him up.

We did box decorating (got some colourful boxes from Baker Ross plus lots of stickers). The boxes then became useful recepticle for games prizes and slice of cake.

More good ideas. This is great! My dp is going to think I am a super dooper alpha mummy when I come up with all of this as if I have thought of it myself!

hav eyou much time before party? get a big box and fill it with ribbon, glitter, cut up old xmas/bday cards, pom poms, anuthign at all you can think of like tin foil, buttons, patterned fabric, and buy a pack of blank card

girls adore making cards for each ohter (well mind do anyway!)

ELC do glue sticks and glue, or prtt stick is good too

give them felt pens as a special treat

For DD we did decorating fairy biscuits, making fairy crowns and making fairy wands. Did I mention it was a fairy party

We also covered a dining "carver" chair with crepe paper and made a big cut out crown which we stuck on the back, then took a photo of each "fairy pricess" sitting on the "throne" and (thanks to DHs computer know how) sent everyone home with a photo.

  • making crowns/hats (cut out strips of card and staple to size, provide stickers, glitter etc)
  • decorating photoframes (you can get cheap ones in IKEA and glue and lots of sequins/glittery bits etc.)
  • Buy a bead kit and they can all make necklaces/braclets
  • nail painting/tattoos

It's a good idea to have some colouring sheets and pens/crayons too for if they have finished the main craft and you are still helping the others.

have fun
