What to do if kids bored at a cinema party?

Hi, we have my daughter’s birthday party at a cinema soon, in a private screen and I am genuinely worried the kids will be bored. It’s an older movie that I think they will have seen before and they are all 7. They will have popcorn, ice cream etc but can you think of any activities to keep them amused if they are bored? I don’t want them telling my daughter her party isn’t very good!

too late to cancel?

We had a cinema party last year (small cinema, watching Encanto).

We invited Dd's class of 16 kids - and everyone was very well behaved, most parents stayed to watch, so that probably helped. Some of the kids went a bit wild afterwards during the credits, running around the room - but no harm done.

We then had pizza and cake in the cinema bar - I wish we'd planned some games to keep them occupied as they finished their pizza, but others were still eating.

All-in-all - a successful party.

We did a few years ago, I think it was for DS 7th birthday, it was fine. The cinema we used did have a room where there were some party games first which possibly helped.

We had a cinema for DD’s 7th. We knew a 2 particular kids would be disruptive because they’re like that at every single party no matter the activity but can’t just exclude 2 of the class. So booked a cinema with a bar, persuaded most of the parents to stay by providing a beers, fizz and snacks then when the 2 inevitably behaved badly we could get the parent and say ‘I think he needs you…’. All in all I’d say it was a success.

What's the film?

Alevelnamechange · 20/08/2024 11:54

@rochenut it was Dd's 7th birthday - she's one of the oldest in the year so the kids were 6 to 7 years old.

Do you get your choice of movie? Could you change to one that would hold their interest better, or is your dd set on that one?

rochenut · 20/08/2024 14:42

if you would only lose a deposit, i would overrule your daughter on this one and arrange something else

6/7 year olds (some will have only just turned 7 if your daughter is turning 7 and in same year), and may not even have ever sat through an entire film before. They are with their friends and they will want to…. move!

Your 6 year old is too young to really foresee how this will go with children so young.

Id suck up loss of deposit and do trampolining or clip and climb
