Is it true that children have to pay for 50th wedding anniversary party AND anyone know a good private dining room or nice place for said party (if they are not fibbing )

it is MIL & FIL 50th wedding anniversary party

Both SILs are skint and dh hopeless so of course it is down to me to organise and us to pay for (allegedly - or did they make this up)

So I think a nice private dining room lunch for extendedish family would be good.

Any recommendations?

Don't know about 'have to'. It was my parents' a few years ago. They organised a big garden party in the summer but DB and I arranged a family meal on the actual date. Private room in a foodie sort of pub. Had cake specially made, bought napkins, balloons and flowers. Came to about 200 for 11 of us incl drinks. It was lovely. Mum got all teary, bless her.

Kensington Place have also recently revamped themselves, though private room is a bit of a fishbowl onto the top of Ken Ch St.....
Also, have never tried it, but Kensington Place's sister restaurant, Launceston Place is suppoed to be v good, also recently revamped.

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 17:50

Just never have!

Yes I like Rousillon but it is a bit hushed for a party really don't you think?

Sheesh Jura - don't go telling everyone about the Bleeding Heart

A wonderful choice might be Mosimann's; the private dining there is fabulous!

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 17:54

I do know of it of course - just not bin.

Odd I know

Oxo tower used to do private dining ( but then I am probably showing my age)
Great views for IL's visiting London

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 20:52

yes but terrible food and attitude!

I donn't know about paying for the fiftieth - we certainly paid for mum and dad's fortieth - but my mum had all of us kids putting aside some of our pocket money each week for seven years to save up for a 25th anniversary present for them. We were aged btween 12 and 16 when the anniversary happened and we had accumulated nearly £125 in small change by then (this was the late 1970s). She then instructed us to give the money to my aunt who would choose the present for us. We accepted this as quite normal, but it is a bit weird, no?
