and would you be prepared to show me photos / share tips?

I found a couple of photos online but am hoping a MNer will be able to provide first hand experience.

more the panels on his body - I agree the legs could 'set' horizontally.

Silver icing would be next on my list of things to worry about

You could always 'fake' the uprights, with polystyrene covered in hard icing!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:24

I couldn't, Mo - I would know and would then feel obliged to tell everyone that I cheated

Fair point! I think I'd have to tell too! I think you'd have to use grey icing, the only silver stuff I've ever seen is the lustre for brushing on.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:32

How about this - looks like it would do the job?

Looks promising. Just had a look at her cakes. How the hell can she get away with charging £75 for a sponge cake plus £18.50 for p&p!

Looks like I need to start a website! The maximum I can get away with is £35 and my football cake is heaps better than hers! She even sticks a footie logo on it, I make mine myself!

PeachesMcLean · 08/04/2008 21:45

Can't believe I'm clicking on a cake thread (Star wars lured me in) Am possibly the worst cake maker ever but could possibly just manage the light saber cake. this is sounding good, and feasible even for me.

Could someone tell me more about glittery icing to make it glow? Where do you get that?

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:46

I know - her prices are enough to make me think I could make a living at this - except that she trades off her name, to a money-no-object type of market. P&P is ludicrous even for the supplies, so now I know it exists I will try and find that paint elsewhere

You can buy a silver or gold lustre which you brush on Peaches. There's plenty of online shops. Sugarflare is one of the main makers, but if you can find a cake decorating shop near you, go and have a nose and be inspired!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:52

this looks like a much better bet - cheaper than Jane Asher and cheap delivery too!

Peaches - on the same link you may find the answer to your question as well - the 'Disco Baby' colours look like they have light sabre possibilities to me.

Oh yes. That looks fun! I can't wait to see the finished result! DB isn't 40 next year, that's DH! Whoops! Hope we're both still here in 2010 to remember this thread!

PeachesMcLean · 08/04/2008 22:07

Thanks both, I think I know a place in town that will have all that kind of thing. Will convince DS that's what he wants then go and have a look. Got to be better than another spiderman cake from Tesco...

MaureenMLove · 08/04/2008 22:24

I firmly believe that, no matter how bad your cake skills are, your lo will remember a homemade one, far more than a shop bought one! Good luck!

PeachesMcLean · 08/04/2008 23:22

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

I may be back.

stealthsquiggle · 10/04/2008 14:49

Any time, Peaches - always happy to interfere help with other people's cakemaking

For everyone who so kindly helped - photos now on my profile - it was not up to CoV's standards, or even close, and I shall now go back to only making cakes from books

OP posts:
PeaGreene · 13/06/2008 11:38

NOpe. Not on your profile.

I'm Peaches by the way. I was sooooo chuffed with mine, and I saw Hassled did a pretty cool one too. Come on, get your piccies sorted.

stealthsquiggle · 13/06/2008 11:39

Try again now Peaches/Pea

PeaGreene · 13/06/2008 11:51

Oh my god that's amazing!

Wow.

Puts my covered swiss roll to shame

Legoleia · 13/06/2008 14:47

Just tried to peek but no pic...?

stealthsquiggle · 13/06/2008 15:20

Sorry about that - try again. All my pictures are normally 'mumsnet mates only' but I have made the cake ones open for the moment
