Cool and unusual 10/11 year old boy birthday party ideas

My son is just about to turn 10 at the end of August but most his friends are nearly 11. I always pride myself on planning cool birthday activities. This year we were supposed to be going to an inflatable water assault course but we've just found out the M25 is going to be closed all that weekend so we can't get there and we're going to have to cancel and suddenly I'm stuck without an idea. We've already done laser tag, go karting, climbing and gaming parties in previous years and his friends have done all the usual stuff like go ape, ninja warrior, foot golf, bowling, cinema etc - as he's the youngest in the year he's always got to go after everyone else, so all the best ideas are usually taken! When I google online all the suggestions seem a little young for the kids I know are coming - most of the boys are quite mature and have older brothers so seem to have outgrown a lot of kids party type stuff already.

So, hoping for some slightly more unusual suggestions please? The boys who are coming are all very much boyish and all quite sporty so I don't think anything like theatre or pamper parties would go down well, and my son isn't into football so a football party is out. We live in a reasonably rural area so we probably have more options around here that are outdoorsy than city type stuff. Theme parks are out as all involve driving round the M25. Don't mind splashing the cash a bit and would prefer not to have a party at home. Anyone got any quirky ideas please?

Archery, paint ball, canoeing if you have a local company, orienteering, tracking, bivouacking if you have a big enough garden for home base after they have been out tracking or treasure hunting, campfire cooking and camping in the garden. If you are rural, make the most of the great outdoors!

Escape room?

We live in a very built up London commuter town in the countryside, so not the right kind of rural for outdoorsy activities except of the paid for and organised variety. I wish we did have a garden big enough for camping but we'd struggle to even have a decent game of football.

Is there a dry ski slope nearby? We went to a fab party where the kids went down on the giant donuts for an hour.

The other one my kids really enjoyed was at a local gymnastics club, where they could go crazy on the spring boards, parallel bars trampolines etc

Sadly the only anywhere nearby would also involve going round the M25.

How about indoor mini golf or full size screen golf, table tennis, nerf guns, geo caching, paddle boarding?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/06/2024 21:45

zorbing
paintball
climbing
pottery classes
rafting

I would hold the party on a different weekend when the M25 is open and you can get to the activity you wanted to do.

My dd had a really successful paddleboarding party on a local lake at a country park. Might that work?

Petal7 · 17/06/2024 21:54

Or ice skating?

Happyhouralways · 17/06/2024 21:57

Train into London and the f1 arcade by St Paul’s

Newuser75 · 17/06/2024 22:04

We are no where near you but are there any mini tank parties near you?
Nerf gun party
Swimming party with inflatables

Sunbeam18 · 17/06/2024 22:16

Trampolining place?

Snooglequack · 17/06/2024 22:21

I was going to suggest the same - a ringo party on a dry ski slope.

DS once had an exotic animal party run by a lovely dad and daughter who had a mini zoo of animals rescued from being illegally imported. They all got to handle tarantulas, snakes, bearded dragons, giant land snails. You could hire a hall or do it at home. They come to you.
Look up Tropical Zoo Roadshow from Hounslow Urban Farm if he likes that idea.

It's the only day we could find that everyone could come.

No ice rink round here that doesn't involve the m25.

The only one near here is £65 a head. Pushing the budget a bit.

Head into woods divide into teams and have a shelter building competition. Hot dogs in flasks.

User478 · 18/06/2024 09:53

I know you said no football, but bubble football?

You can hire the stuff and book a pitch somewhere local?
