I've organised for 8 5 year olds to come to ds1's birthday party on sat, but looks like rain. Is a totally football themed party....

what would you do?

let them get wet playing in the rain?
or
think of alternative football themed ideas we xcan do inside...

such as???

tearing my hair out!

weeeeell

You were hopeful doing an outdoor party in April tbh.

However that doesn't help.

Can you do footie stuff inside? (clear out yr biggest room and put up a goal?) Only 8 kids is not too bad.

If no room inside then is it poss to quickly hire a local hall as cheap as poss?

Or just bite bullet and do it outside - yr lawn may sufer tho.

welllll..

Inside is out of the question - my rooms are just not big enough and garag eis full of stuff

hall is not an option as its too late

the footie pitch is only 2 mins waslk away, so its not about my lawn, more about them being all soaked.

I have planned a few more indoor games and if it does chuck it down they can go outside for a brief penalty shoot out and then come back inside for more games

i'm praying for no rain and that teh forecast shas been wrong!

when my ds was 6 (Oct b'day), we were having a treasure hunt and fireworks in the garden of course it was totally peeing it down. However I asked all the kids to come with wellies, raincoats and stuff and we carried on. They had a fantastic time! They loved it! It's still talked about now...
Go for it, get a change of clothes and carry on

thanks

i think we are just going to wing it

i have got t shirts and have marked their names on the backs a la footie kit and will let them stencil something on the front..trucks, cars and so on

we are doing face painting

we are doing musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey

have a football cake which i made

if its dry they will go to the park to play at the proper field
if raining heavily we will have a penalty shoot out in the garden

have winner medals for both teams!

hw how did it go?

Your "winging it" party sound sgreat in fact!

I thought of you yesterday as the snow was falling here - but maybe it wasn't there?

HI CLARY

thanks - we're in HOlland and didn't get snow. When i woke up on sat it was raining, but dried up at lunchtime. They loved having their faced painted and i had alot of tigers and some spidermen running round the house. we did pin the tail on the donkey and then tehy went out to play footie with their special t shirts on for about 45 mins. Came back muddy and a bit damp, but not wet! Had the cake which was apparently "cool" and then played musical chairs. At that point the sun cmae out so some of them went out to play football in the garden and some stayed inside and played with the train set.

After that it was time for home and party bags. I think they all had a good time. I realised that 5 year olds are an appreciative audience and easily pleased with a balloon and a party bag!

I am so relieved that it is all over and went well. Thanks to you all for your advice!
