Costco party food?

Is Costco a good option for party food for a children’s party?

I don’t have a membership yet, considering getting one if I can make it worthwhile.

would it be good for buying fruit/veg, sandwich fillings, snacks and treats for the party or would I be better off going to a local supermarket instead?

thanks 😁

They do fruit and veg which would be good, but the sandwich platters aren't aimed at children.

they do cheap and nice cookies, big muffin cakes etc.

birthday cakes are very cheap and are suppose to be nice (although ive never tried them myself)

Unless you have several parties to cater for I'm not sure the discount would negate the membership fee.

It's decent party food and very convenient to just be able to walk in, look at what's available and walk out with a boot full of ready to go party stuff but back when I was a member it was about £30-35 a year and you could probably source party platters at Morrisons or Marks and Sparks for less than £35 difference.

I’d hope to be able to get use of the membership by doing semi regular shops for bulk stuff. Although I’ve heard it can be on the more expensive side compared to regular supermarkets but the quality is supposedly better?

There was Costco pizzas as a child's party we've been to recently, they were so nice! Went down well.

Another idea would be pizza delivery. That's what we did for DDs 8th birthday, booked it for delivery in the first half of her party then they ate it in the second half.

Several pizzas, a couple of big garlic breads, some wedges and chicken nuggets and lots of very happy full children.

Cakes are also 👌🏽

I’ve tried the garlic bread before and that was delicious! And apparently quite cheap for what you get. That could be an option 😁

Maybe I’m weird but I absolutely hate the Costco birthday cake it’s so painfully sweet it makes my teeth hurt and my eyes go fuzzy! If you give it out I’d put it in party bags rather than risk a mad sugar rush in all the kids!

Thanks for those, I will check them out!

I have a habit of over buying party food so perhaps pizza would be a good option.

Not sure how many guests yet, invites going out tomorrow.

how did you work out how much to order? My son can eat for England!

We were at a party that used Wenzels platters the other day and I was impressed. They do both pizza and sandwich platters as well as cakes

Some things in Costco are good value ( the large rectangular pizzas as an example, bake at home ciabattas...) some things are expensive. You soon get to know what is good value and what you will use. It helps to know the prices of things know the supermarket. Its only £30 for a membership so why not have a punt. Its worth it to have somewhere for cheap tyres and to go when it's raining!

We got 13.5 inch pizzas which are estimated to feed 4 people.

Had an estimated 20 kids attending (can never tell for sure due to surprise attendees and no shows) so went with 5 margherita pizzas, 2 garlic bread pizzas, 2 large portions of wedges and 2 large portions of nuggets.

Worked out Ok, we had a few adults milling about who had some too, and there were a few slices sent home with the kids as doggy bags.

We had a 2 for 1 deal so it actually worked out about the same as buying stuff for a traditional kids buffet.

They do a kids sandwich platter with jam as one of the four fillings. I would recommend the food for a kids party - sandwiches or wraps, pizza, birthday cake, drinks etc are all good from there.

lavagal · 08/04/2024 20:13

Another vote for the pizzas - went down well at DD party.

They used to do children's sandwich platters (ham/cheese/jam) but don't anymore - their sandwiches and wraps are lovely but not kid friendly - think tomatoes, rocket, pastrami etc
