getting my drift

Musical bumps/statues/chairs

Pin the tale on the donkey. I downloaded a pin the spot on the leopard from the Nickolodean site (I think)

McDreamy · 28/03/2008 21:00

Sleeping lions

bodiddly · 28/03/2008 21:02

how about the memory tray game ... good for when you want them to calm down a bit and you fancy a few minutes of peace and quiet

oregonianabroad · 28/03/2008 21:02

Musical statues.

Musical chairs.

a really good one for that age, a variation on pass the parcel (only 1 prize under lots of layers). collect a pile of clothes (e.g. bathrobe, goggles/sunglasses, gloves, scarf, wellies, etc...) and child has to dress self before touching parcel. Music is playing in the background, when the music stops (e.g. when child has only removed 1 layer of wrapping), they have to undress and help the next person. last person gets to unwrap final layer, gets the prize.

oregonianabroad · 28/03/2008 21:03

Get them to do a self-portrait on a paper plate, using collage-bits.

Miggsie · 28/03/2008 21:03

flapping a big paper fish with a newspaper?
I remember that one being UNBELIEVABLY competitive when I was young.
And what time is it Mr Wolf?

Slouchy · 28/03/2008 21:04

Treasure Hunt - clues around house
Decorate biscuits etc

McDreamy · 28/03/2008 21:04

How about getting them to ice and decorate some previously made fairy cakes? Or make their own sandwiches? I know they are not games but it will keep them occupied!!

Snowstorm · 28/03/2008 21:04

Treasure hunts are good ... and take up a bit of time.

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:05

I had though of, musical bumps, pass the parcel (will do this twice), my mum does a mad beans game with them and pin the tail on the donkey, will this be enough, Party is for 2 hours???? Am liking the variation of pass the parcel though makes it last longer

Hibernating hedgehogs. Get kids to crawl around on all floors, then shout "hedgehogs hibernate", they all have to curl up into a ball (hiding eyes), stick a blanket over one of them, then shout "wake up hedgehogs" and all the kids have to work out who is under the blanket.

A game I saw at a party last week, if you have a load of theose small plastic balls (From a ball pool) then tip them out all over the floor, put bin/containers around room, play music, stop music and pick up ball of one colour, shout "GREEN" or whatever and they all race around like loons tidying up all the balls of that colour. God they loved it.

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:05

What is flapping a big paper fish with a newspaper???

you could make party hats with them too, just cut up some card and make into crowns, then put stickers etc on them.

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:07

Am liking the crafty ideas but I had a pamper party for my other dd and also had a craft party so I wanted to avoid messy crafty bits.

musical islands, put newspaper sheets(broadsheet, proper broadsheet like FT or Telegraph) around room, play music, stop music they have to stand on an island, gradually remove islands. The children can share an island together but if any part of them is touching the floor then they are both out (promotes co-operation , if you want to be particularlt nasty, start folding the newspaper pieces in half.......

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:10

Ooooh like musical islands. Might try that one.

Paper fish on floor (one for each team), give child newspaper (doesn't have to be a broadsheet with this one....although other parents will notice if you hand out the Mirror) and they have to fan the fish along the floor, using only the power of the waft. Next child wafts it back.

up down up down. winning team first to have all members back

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:19

So lets just say two teams of 4. Do 2 kids go on one side of the room and 2 on the other?? Have I got that right.

Slubberdegullion · 28/03/2008 21:21

yup, unless you want each child to go up and back with their fish. Takes longer, wears them out more.

I'd stick with 2 kids at one end, 2 at t he other.

singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:25

Oooh I like that one. I can see me sitting tomorrow night cutting out fish. I really like this one.

OP posts:
singyswife · 28/03/2008 21:28

Thanks all. Now have pass the parcel, Musical Islands, Waft the fish, Beanz game (if stuck) and pint the tail on the donkey. Will this do a two hour party and obviously food too.

How about the beans game? You don't need any materials, just a loud voice. Shout out various types of beans, kids have to do actions as follows:

Jumping beans - jump up and down
Broad beans - walk around being very wide - arms outstretched and JOhn Wayne stylee walking
French Beans - say 'ooh la la'
Runner beans - run
Baked beans - crouch on the floor (not sure re: the relevance of this one)

There's absolutely no point to it and no way of winning but it expends loads of energy and everyone loves it. Well, at least I do, anyway!
