Asked to contribute food for 100 people

We have been invited to a friends 60th birthday. We go out regularly in a small group...approx 10 of us. We offered to contribute food for her party if she wanted.
Recently she has put up the list of food she wants, thanking us for offering to contribute. I said I'd take crisps and nuts, but also on the list wer things like breaded chicken, sausage rolls, cheese biscuits, French stick butter and so on. I asked roughly how many people we should cater for. She said she hadn't got final numbers but probably around 100.
Am I being unreasonable thinking it is too much to ask of us to supply that quantity of food? Or is it reasonable as we offered?

That seems CF to me. Contributing say , a couple of desserts, box of beer or box of wine, several large packets of crisps - great.

Providing dessert for 100 people, beer / wine for everyone, no way. She is deliberately misunderstanding your offer. So, decide what you feel comfortable with and let her know that’s what you can provide. Maybe crisps for 20- your group plus partners for example.
Do not leave yourself £ short for someone else’s party.

Is everyone bringing food?

Is anyone else contributing?
Message her back and say you look at list and let her know what your be taking and quantity so she can mark it off. If you can't tell her straight imply that you believe the list is for loads of people.

100 people?! That's an outright piss take. To invite that many and not cater is beyond rude.

That's absurd.

I'd take a large dessert, a bottle or two of wine and a couple of tubes of Pringles.

If everyone did the same, there would be enough.

I think wires got crossed - you all offered to help but just a hunch you assumed fewer numbers. I suspect she will be getting some food herself too. Just say you'll bring 3 x large bags crisp and 2 x large bags nuts for instance.

None of those foods are that expensive bought frozen eggs cheap breaded chicken or mini sausage rolls you bake (and they come in packets of 50)

I think I'd just bring 5 x 20 packs of walkers and a few bags of nuts? That should be enough for 100 and probably would cost about £30 altogether. But if she's expecting facer than that, I'd just bring what I could.

OMG no!!!! This is awful...... It already now sounds like too much for me and I'd not be going, just cba with the thought it would now take to explain you're not catering for 100 etc. It's their party, their cost. I'd say I'll bring a case of beer and 4 big bags of crisps with dip.

As long as you’re clear about what you’re taking in advance that’s fine.

id send a text:

”Hi Gertrude, just to let you know that I will be contributing eight bags of crisps and eight tubes of Pringles. Hope that helps you with your planning. See you soon”

Update the numbers are now closer to 50 so feels more manageable, but only the small group of friends has been asked to provide for everyone.
I'm going to get 10 bags of crisps and 2 of nuts and be done with it.
1 friend has said she will provide cocktail sausages, but not the rice salad she offered, not prepared to make it for 100.

She's basically asking people to cater her party. CF
