Hi, I’m looking for a party bag ideas for 7 years old birthday party (both boys and girls). Want to make them a bit more special and memorable. Have you kids received something that they really liked in gift bags? Any ideas welcomed. Thanks in advance

Edible, consumable things. Can’t stand the plastic tat

They wont be remembered ... no matter how special you make them.

I like the ones that "leave no mark" - i.e. not plastic shit please that will get lost/broken/clutter my house.
no £1 books from The Works please...
No PaintingsCraft/crayons etc

Sweets, chocolate, bath bombs - all good. They're gone withing a few days.

DGD went to a party recently and got a tub of chalk for outside, not sure if was party bag or a prize but she played for hours with it and it it's still going strong.
When mine were younger we done skipping ropes, balls, hula hoops

Please don't do this. As a working mum it gives me another thing to do and care for.

Just put consumables and things the biodegrade in or go to the works and get everyone a £ 1 puzzle book each.

Thank you 😊 someone above commented no to £1 books from Works so it’s seems that a nice bag of sweets is the best way to go

Thank you, I am also against tones of plastic, hence looking for something more suitable

Bloody hell there's a lot of miserable people on here!

How about what the children would like?! Not what's inconvenient for parents.

My DS received a sticker book recently and loved it.

I've got his party next month and have bought these canvas bags they can colour in and have play dough, colour books and crayons, sweets and spinning toys.

Honestly after years of party bags (DDs 12 and 9) don't bother, just make sure there's no plastic tat that goes straight in the bin and make sure the bag is paper. Best ones have less stuff in but things they actually can use like pens, notebooks, bracelets. The only one I actually liked that my DD got recently was a Christmas themed mug with stuff to make hot chocolate inside (sachet of powder, marshmallows, candy cane), that could be adapted for any time of year - 7 maybe a bit too young though

I used to just give a packet of Top Trump and a piece of cake. Very quick and easy and not that.

No seeds. I hate that shit.

No slime

Kids want sweets mainly. I like the idea of the poster above with balls/hula hoops/chalks. Good idea. I love books but kids might be disappointed! Don't bother with 20p spinning things etc, they just get ignored and thrown in the bin.

Best one was a “be my bear” party when they were 5/6 ish - the party was all about making the toy, and then the toy itself was the thing to take home. Used to see them around kids houses several years later on play dates.

Other ones - had an inflatables party once so got them all one of those massive inflatable hammers that squeaks. Hee hee. Or a sporty party and got them all a water bottle like the ones they could use at school. Or a nerf party, we got them all cheap but good water pistols (party in early June so ideal for the season). We reckoned if the parents didn’t mind them coming to a nerf party they wouldn’t mind water pistols. We teamed it with a bubble wand as you can do an excellent game where you wave bubbles around and the kids shoot them down with the water pistol.

I actually don’t like the massive sweetie cones people sometimes gave out. They are about 10 - 20 times as many sweets as they’d usually have in a small haribo bag and it was overwhelming. But I’m sure plenty of people didn’t like the inflatable hammers (kids did!) so it’s all square.

I don't like the massive sweet cones either. Or the plastic tat. Feel like am forever throwing away broken plastic tat from party bags. I like books but child would be underwhelmed. Her favourite things have been smiggle type stuff (pens, notebooks), and most recently a miniature squishmallow.

I mean the 10 for £10 books - they're always dreadful

Last birthday party we gave a mug, with one of those hot chocolate melt stick thingies, marshmallows and a mini bath bomb. Treat night in a cup! Apparently it went down well. We thought about a bird feeder with a little print out of local birds so they could get an activity out of it but DC preferred the treat night idea. I think seeds to plant with a little pot of soil is a lovely idea. Agree I hate plastic tat, and one off craft sets/ cheap pencils crayons etc, they barely work anyway.

I had done 4 birthday parties so far for my sons and I had used these (have about 3-4 items, and 2-3 snacks/sweets: -

  • stationary like pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, post-it
  • pair of socks
  • keyrings
  • sweatbands for wrist
  • glowsticks
  • Balloon
  • stickers
  • snacks ie mini chocolate bars, haribo, chuppa chups, those lunchbox multipacks like mini jammy wheels r great too

This year my son is having a smaller party of 9 guests so I will be making them a s'more set each, including a food-safe ethanol burner, skewers sticks, box of matches, crackers in small packs, mini choc bar and toasting marshmallows.

If you have a branch of The Works they have lots of cheap children’s books - stories and puzzle books.
