Hi there, I was hoping you could help. My nearly 3 year old daughter wants a princess party, but a lot of her friends are boys, so I thought I would do a "princess and pirates" party. However, I am having trouble finding invitations with them both on. Can anyone help? I am always wondering how I mix the two?? Do I buy 10 plates with pirates on and 10 with princesses? Or am I just making it hard for myself??!! This is my first party....can anyone help please??

Okay, I have to say at princess parties but she's your baby and girlie stuff is somewhat inescapable I hear

Suggestions.

Set out hat templates, crowns and pirate hats, for toddlers to decorate, using stickers and felt pens - have a roll or two of selotape nearby for adults to stick them together.

You could also have a treasure hunt for gold coins (pirates booty)

Buy some brightly coloured plastic plates, you'll end up using them time and time again so definitely worth the investment. You can get cheap primary coloured ones that suit picnics and other future parties.

Invitations. Depending on size of party, you could get dd to do them, you could print out pictures of pirates and princesses and get her to make a collage affair on A5 paper and write on back. Or you could print off a photo of your dd and stick/draw princess crowns and skull and crossbones as boarder on back where you can write party info.

Party bags. Again you can buy these blank and decorate at party but personally think you would have too much craft stuff going on then so save this idea for next year. Instead you could use something like a treasure box
Include these La fruit and more gold coins, and one or maybe two other things (small things! necklace/watch notebook)

Are you sorted for food ideas? Will parents be staying? How many are you having?

My DD had a princess party for her 3rd BD and invited 3 boys to it. I think there were 5 children altogether, they played with her toys for entertainment and they had pass the parcle and had party food on princess plates. The boys paid no attention to the princess plates they were far more interested in the chocolate crispy cakes and the contents of the party bags were far more important than the outside pictures. Believe me most men/boys really don't care about this stuff as much as we women do and most 3yo boys are quite oblivious. I shouldn't worry half as you are- it's much more important you relax( I always drink alcohol at my DCs parties) and that DD has a good time. Oh and food, a few sandwiches and carrots for apprearances sake then crisps, cakes, biscuits and crispy cakes - it's what they like the best and when do you ever have healthy stuff when you're out having a good time at a party.

mermaids and pirates?
Then you can do a sea ish theme..may be a bit easier

I would say that if it is a girl's party boys have to put up with a pink plate with a princess on and vice-versa. I would differentiate the party bags though (contents not actual bag).

For the invitation I would do a computer version - a picture of your DD dressed as a princess and then the details of the party underneath - more personal but less writing for you. You could always include some pirate/princess clipart.

Are you having the children dressed up? I think that is where the pirate bit comes in because not many boys are willing to dress up as princesses.

i have just come home from a princess and pirate party! the mum (my cousin) had bought pirate ship box things for the boys meals and pink castle one for the girls. she sent out pink invites to the girls, pirates to the boys. the party was for a 5 year old but she did have a really good princess pirate entertainer (who know such things even existed! if you can wait a day or two i can find out where she got all the stuff.
by the way my dd is 2.5 and has had her princess outfit on since 9am and has just gone to bed in it, so however naff it sounds to us its definately a good choice of theme!

Brilliant ideas, thank you all so much for replying. I REALLY appreciate it!

Nancy - I would love to know where she got the pirate and castle boxes.

There are going to be loads of kids, 20 invites but hopefully not all will show up!

Clare123, i will find out tomorrow for you.

nancy75 · 16/03/2008 21:03

Hi again clare123
this is where the boxes were from - you will probably have to caop/pastthe link
www.partypieces.co.uk/category/partyware_party%20boxes%20and%20trays.htm
she had the pirate galloens and the pink stagecoaches (shows how much notice i took!)
she also had the princess/pirate gift cups instead of party bags,
www.partypieces.co.uk/category/party+bags+and+presents_party+bags_gift+cups.htm

hop e this is some help!

Don't assume all the girls will want the princess gifts and boxes. 2 of my 3 dds prefer pirates to princesses. They were most put out at a party last year when the girls made tutus and the boys decorated "surfboards".

Similarly my 2yo nephew would probably prefer to dress up as a princess than a pirate.
