Do little girls still wear party dresses?

dd2 has been invited to her first ever birthday party. She's 3.9

It's been 10 years since dd1 was at a small person's party and I noticed then that often parents sent their little girls in jeans or 'normal' dresses.

So... if I send her in her party dress, will she be the odd one out and will all the other parents shun me for being horrendously old fashioned?

Party dress, definitely!! It makes it more special. DD1's fourth b'day in Jan, she wore a green velvet party dress and she (and I) thought she was beautiful.

DD is also 3.9 and has several party dresses, some more dressy than others. She insists on wearing them to all parties - even if it is just a bar meal for Grandma's birthday, for instance! She even wears them to soft play. I don't care, she never gets the wear out of them so she might as well. Sometimes though she is invited to fancy dress parties.

DD1 (just 5) will usually want to wear a party dress or dressing up dress, although I have noticed recently that many now seem to be stepping away from this and wearing 'normal' or 'trendy' clothes. I sometimes worry she'll be the only one dressed up, but as she is 10 times more confident than me, I try not to worry! At this age, I think if they want to be dressed up, then let them go for it!
